Thread: Music ideas for a beginner's workshop

ok - I always have my "go to" songs for my beginner choreographys for workshops and class but...

I wanna shake it up a bit and add in some new songs. Not feeling inspired by my current collection

I usually teach a 2-3 minute choreography to a nicely even tempo'd song...

Something very basic. What is in your "go to" list? ..g.:

Not very original, but I like the first few minutes of 'Habibi Ya'Eini' for beginner choreography. It's got a nice 'classic' feel, strong, easy accents, an even-tempo'd faster section, and a few places where you could cut it and it'll sound OK. I really like the version of this song on the CD Wahyatak Habibi. Great album: Ameras Palace Bellydance Boutique.

Again, a little old, but El Hantour is good for a fun, more modern style beginner's choreo.

Shashkin is always good.

I usually use pop music, but if you do not have a microphone or a loud voice, it can be difficult to hear the teacher calling moves over songs with vocals in a large classroom.

Whatever you pick, choose a song that the students can easily and legally obtain. I think it's a good idea for teachers to impress upon students the importance of good ethics as early as possible.

Simarik (kiss, kiss) by Tarkan. I don't know many people who don't want to get up and shimmy to that song.

For a fun faster one - Bellydancer by Yerba Buena, though it's kind of fusiony. I used to use that one to wrap up introductory workshops. Everyone loves it!
