I normally dance in shoes but last night I thought, what the heck, I wanted to get earthy and feel gounded at a private party in someones home, so I danced barefoot. And now I hava a super tiny shard of glass in both of my feet. IT hurts, but I cant really see it to get it out. Im going to have to wait for Joe to come home from MI later and help me. ,f::

I got my own glass bead stuck in my foot the other night. I was dancing in a theater and went barefoot. It took me a while to get the glass out-- soaking your foot in warm water helps a lot-- and when I finally got it out and I saw it was blue... I realized, Damn, that's from my costume!

I had this happen a year and a half ago - I had to go to Patient First for a tetnus shot and to have the glass pulled out of my foot. They didn't get it all and I pulled one more small chunk out two days later. Ugh.
If you're not up on your tetnus shot I would go have that done, it was covered in my co-pay.

I got a piece of glass in my foot years ago - couldn't locate it but I knew it was there. An x-ray will not show glass in the foot I was told so I just had to wait for the piece to come down. Six months later, I felt this little jab in the side of my foot and, sure enough, there it was! You could see it trying to poke through the skin. I had to go to the hospital to get them to open the area and have a couple of stitches put in after they removed the piece of glass. You'd think I would think about this when I dance - but I still dance barefoot!

I dance barefoot IF I'm familiar with stage surface; if not - then I have really good leather flat sandals and even ballroom glitzy ones with 2" heels.
I like the look of bare feet better, but have had not only shards of glass, but glass beads and even 20 redwood inch long splinters imbedded in soles of feet.
It's all about soaking the feet twice a day AFTER washing with a good antibacterial soap and I had to put gauze bandages wrapped around feet with Bacitracin. What a mess - the worst was the redwood splinters - I didn't feel them until five minutes after performance. It took two weeks for my feet to be "danceworthy" after that incident.
My advice is always bring dance footwear when you perform, JUST IN CASE, and a good supply of bandaids and antibacterial ointment. Accidents do happen, unfortunately, and even if they don't, I wash feet very carefully after performing; you never *know* what is on a carpet, or lawn, or restaurant floor.
Horror foot story of the century: Years ago a Morrocan restaurant got flooded from sewer system in building next door mostly in kitchen but carpeting in main dining area soaked in center. Owners didn't replace carpeting; who knows what cleaning process they used but a few days later the barefoot bellydancer working there regularly gets bacertial infection on both feet from contaminated carpet in main dining room. that required doctor visit and antibiotics to clear up. Restaurant owner would NOT reimburse dancer for medical expenses much less fact she couldn't dance for a few weeks. Subsequently, the restaurant was "remodeled" and all the carpets had to be replaced - Nisima wonders if building inspector had anything to do with that................

Try using a safety pin to gently nudge it out.

Without being able to see your feet, I would not poke at it -depending on the location you can actually cause more damage. If the glass is superficial (where you can feel it when you move your finger over the site but don't necessarily see it) then you have the option of pulling it out.
You may want to put your foot under running water or use hydrogen peroxide to dislodge the glass enough where you can pick it out with tweezers.
If you can’t get the glass out in a day or two, I would suggest going to see your doctor. And definitely watch out for infection!
Take care and good luck! Sorry this happened!!

Ouch! Once upon a time I forgot sandals at an outdoor/concrete event...lame.
If I would have thought of it then I would have Duct taped the pads of my feet. I'm sure a sound tech around would have some...
Now I have extra bearclaws in every dance bag.

One trick someone suggested was to use iodine because the iodine will lay on the surface of the glass making it easier to see.

I am always barefoot ~whether it comes to dancing or everyday scootin' around. I hate shoes of any type...so my feet are pretty rough and tough. I've hade numerous lil' slivers o' glass. I'm used to letting them fester their way out...or if I grow impatient, I force 'em out.

Sorry to hear what happened. Hopefully you have now recovered.
After my first event like that, I discovered a great solution to use the bandaid which you can spray to your feet before you go to the stage.
I use this kind of, but it may look different at you country

Remember to do it twice to get a better coverage and only to the bottom
and do not move before it is dry (if you do, you get dirty feet and it may
be slippery).
After the performance in the shower, it is simple to wash it off, and give yourself a good foot massage at the same time.

Ouch - I'm so sorry that happened to you and I hope you got it out okay. This has happened to me 3 times ... The last time was particularly painful when I stood squarely on a small chunk of glass during my opening number at a restaurant and had to finish the whole damn set not putting any weight on my foot
Each time i get home, pour myself a glass of wine and sit on the bathroom floor, cursing and swearing and manage to dig it out with a sterilised needle .... I guess that's not the recommended responsible approach for the health of your feet ... but personally I can't handle the feeling of tiny piece of glass jarring my nervous system every time I take a step ...

This was almost a weekly occurrence with me. Boy does it hurt. A nurse friend gave me a small scapel blade. That really helped, otherwise I just used a needle. You can kind of see where it is because the blood will leave a black or dark spot usually. Otherwise you just have to feel around with the needle until you touch something hard. I usually liked to soak my foot in a hot bath before poking around. If it was really deep it might take a few days before the bead moved up close enough to the surface. I swear I still have a bead in my foot from years ago. Every once in a great while I can still feel it. Good luck getting it out!
