Belly cardio?
I've been asked to sub a class that's normally a hip-hop cardio class in a few weeks.
It's a 45-minute class, and the participants are there more for the workout than for dance instruction.
I'm figuring I should just do it sort of zumba style--use simple moves over and over and forget about proper technique--but I don't want to wind up hurting anyone.
Any suggestions?

Re: Belly cardio?
I do a lot of combinations in my cardio belly. grapevines, hops, egyptian walks, shimmy shimmy shimmy! these are pretty safe movements. i also do hip twists, lifts, tunisian step, and will make sure it looks like good enough posture in order not to injure, but i don't get too into absolutely proper technique.
before the class i go over proper posture, talk about tucking the tail bone to avoid back injury, etc... then it's just movement the rest of the time. occasionally someone will stop me to break it down, so i would do that, but try to keep them moving for the cardio. hope that helps!

Re: Belly cardio?
I use fairly simple movements that I feel are less likely to cause injury - like using flat hip circles instead of ommis. Like jawahir mentioned, I use a lot of traveling footwork to keep the heart rate up, and I only do 3-4 moves per song in a combination that repeats endlessly.

Re: Belly cardio?
For the cardio section, use Saidi. Those high-impact hopping steps will keep the heart rates up!

Re: Belly cardio?
I"ve got a sweat/strength class, we do some cardio but it's not the focus. yes to the suggestions above, and also: lots of work changing levels, for example, omis standing flat footed, then in deep plie then standing, then high on the balls of the feet, then work down to full plie while staying on the balls of the feet. we also work the same set with the weight mostly on the right, then again with the weight mostly on the left to increase the amount of work in the and leg muscles. we use some debke and greek line dance moves for the cardio section as well.
