Thread: Egypt - does anyone know of dance classes or one on one teachers anywhere in Egypt?

My name is Irene and I am from England aged 45. I did a little bit of belly dancing at night school. My partner died 2 years ago and I have now made the decision "What is it, that I want to do?". To learn to Bellydance in Egypt? (smile!) Does anyone know of any classes (in Cairo or anywhere in Egypt). I have 3-4 months there from middle of this October. How much does instruction cost in a class or personal one on one? Any help will be of great help and I would be very grateful for your experience and expertise in your guidance. Cheers! Have you checked out Eshe's thread on her visit to Egypt? That gives a lot of information about her work with Raqia Hassan.

Yes, Cairo would be the best place for you to go to learn. That's where all the teachers are based. The first thing I would suggest, if you haven't already done it, is talk to Kay Taylor of Faridadance. She's used to travelling in Egypt and dealing with the teachers there. Also, talk to Yasmina of Cairo, who has worked in Egypt for years.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you can feel that your husband would be happy for you to follow your dream this way.

There are many teachers in Cairo for one to one lessons, or workshops.
On my opinion one of the best persons are Yasmina of Cairo, and since she is English also you can find it more easy to have lessons in english also.

first of all sorry for your lost but also congratulations for your decisions.
I am a professional dance instructor, based originally in Brussels, Belgium, but I am living as well temporaly in Cairo, where I am working +/ teaching at ISOC, the International Saray for Oriental Culture in Cairo-Moqattam, a private Dance and Research Institute, founded by Prof Dr Hassan Khalil, Prof (emerit) Academy of Arts, in Cairo.
There a possibilities to have classes in ISOC in October 14- 22 and in November 20 - 29. We have many Cairo based Oriental Dance teacher related with ISOC, we can put you in contact with them.
