Thread: Why is it always so hard for me to find troupe songs!?!?

I know I've asked on bhuz several times and I always get great advice...Here I am again looking for music for two different troupe choreos (one professional and one students). I'm completely stuck! I've spent hours with my itunes library, scouring Amazon and belly dance downloads. I have yet to find something I love for either. Big sigh...

So what are your tricks to finding great music for choreo? I never have problems finding songs for solos, but with group numbers you really have to pick music that is different somehow...How is it different? Does anyone else struggle with this?

What I am looking for:
1) A modern Arabic pop song, something new and not from the early 90's. ..l;, I seemed to find one that is good, but I am waiting on troupe approval.

2) Something upbeat for an advanced beginner/intermediate student troupe. The first song was very modern BDSS inspired and the second song was very classical and oriental. The girls are saying they want something in between. Not to fast, not too slow...not too samey, not too varied. Gah! I want to make them happy, but I am at a lost. I tried to cut an 8 minute song that I love down to 4 minutes on Saturday and I got so frustrated so I gave up!

How to help the song blockage!

I know for our troupe..Shahzaadee typically picks our music and that is that. I mean, you are the leader right? Why do you have to get approval from everyone? Isn't it a student troupe? You 'da boss lady!!! LOL

You couldnt' find anything on any of the BDSS cd's? They always have a great variety of stuff.

I know, I know, but I like for the student troupe to have some interaction and input, I think it helps foster a positive learning experience...however, I do always have final say and that's the truth!

ETA: The one I need approval on is for Khahari...we make all decisions as a group. There is no leader.

It is hard to find troupe songs, especially if you need the dancers to purchase the song, making it impossible to edit.
Emad Sayyeh has 5000 cds out and a lot of it is good for students, I think. Not too complicated, but still interesting.
