Thread: Teacher/Trainers: NETA or ACE?

Hi, I am trying to decide whether to certify with NETA or ACE. Any recommendations? (I'm on the west coast).

Sorry if this should be in Health/Fitness thread, I wasn't sure.

I'm not familiar with NETA. Is that the same as NESTA?

ACE, AFAA, and ACSM are the industry standards (or were 5 years ago when I was in the industry).

Is this for personal training or fitness instruction??

PT...NASM seems to be the best around here, ACE, ISSA, AFAA

I'd look around the places you want to teach, let's say in gym A, gym B

ask gym A and gym B what cert they require, hopefully they are the same.

I have my PT cert and seems like most gyms do not accept it.

I had my ACE cert as a group fitness instructor and had no trouble getting hired anywhere.

Thanks much for your responses. I'm interested in the group fitness teaching certification. I had tried calling 3 local gyms to see what certification was acceptable - admin folks I spoke to were clueless and trainers I spoke to hesitated to share any info as if I was looking to put them out of a job (or maybe my phone personality just isn't the best).

NETA is the "National Exercise Trainers Association" based in Minneapolis - I started getting flyers from them in the mail somehow after I expressed interest in ACE. NETA's program seems more economical but it sounds as if ACE is more recognized.

ACE has been recognized as the industry standard for decades. Having taken ACE, AFAA and other smaller ones- I'd recommend ACE. You have to know your stuff and it's recognized everywhere.
