    Re: Eastern influences on Middle Eastern Art

    Tourbeau- I have not worded this well, character limit & all that- I know other people use the words religious, religion, spirituality in many different ways- what I meant in my post was more like this:
    I can be 'religious' about anything- brushing my teeth is something I recognize that I benefit from & therefore do it regularly, or religiously. My religion (for lack of a better term) is a set of values & beliefs that I hold, which inform my actions in the world- by that definition, atheism is a religion too. Based on my personal terminology, your 'religion' or worldveiw or however you choose to label your belief system, will indeed affect your expression and actions in the larger world. That's all I meant. :)

    It just bugs me when folks who do not subscribe to an organized religion imply (not accusing you of this at the moment!) that they therefore do not have their own bias or subconscious agendas or ideas to transmit when they adress the world in whatever form the do so. Everyone, no one, not even me, is exempt from expressing their vision of the world, no matter how benign their expression was meant to be. again, this is what I like about dance- you can express this dance without worrying about the underlying spiritual/worldview/whatever inspiration about the practitioner. I hope I made sense...

    I'm going to make a spin-off thread: "Do you feel 'spiritual' ; 'in the dance zone' etc; when you dance? ";
    when I get some thoughts organized!
    :-)

    I feel I have a sense of what you mean, and appreciate the struggle to put it into words so you can truly convey your thoughts.
    That's why, see my post above, I think I will start a spin-off thread. It's not exactly on what you wrote, but it got me to thinking...
