last night i taught "rythem" to g & r, def leapord

my student came in..."i want to hear the beat".ok.i ask her what she listens to, a point of referance...low and behold she was a soul sister in music! after "hair of the dog" cover by G& R...we went back to "chicky"...she got it!...thank god she did not say "country".
does anyone ever bend the rules to reach a student?

As a student, I have to say how totally cool I think this is! (and yeah, understand about the country...) IMHO, developing an integral understanding of the rhythms of music you already have feeling for would help you to better understand and break down new and unfamiliar music, if that makes sense.

    Besides, how fun!!!

If it works, then that is great. I like to dance around to rock music of all sorts . . . some hard and some not so hard, hehe!!! It's all good to me . . . Green Day to Billy Idol . . great for learning the beats!

Try Green Day's American Idiot . . . I like the whole album but that one song really has a lot of energy to it.

And maybe Muse?? they are quite popular now . . . a couple of songs I really like are "Uno' as in "you could have been number one", lol

. . . and the one I call the Dr. Who song, hehe, "Uprising"

LOVE Uprising!! I swear, I will one day choreograph it....
The dancer cannot be separated from the dance, she also cannot be separated from the history of dancing, from the line of dancers and teachers leading to her.

Wow, that's a list that could go on forever! My musical tastes roam far and wide. Other than the already mentioned (DefLep and GnR were big favs)...hmmm, staying in that decade...ACDC, Rush, Lita Ford, Dokken, INXS, Sucidal Tendencies, Judas Priest, bit o' Ozzy with some VHalen and Aerosmith thrown in. And that's the short list! Oh oh, how about some Joe Walsh?? And yeah, Dick Dale is the man! (actually just ordered "Better Shred Than Dead" on Amazon the other day)
