Hiya everyone,
I'm not sure if this should go in the Instructors or Students board, I hope I did it right.
Anasma is coming to Germany in March and giving several workshops. The ones I thought I might attend are marked "experienced beginners". Now after obsessing over how to scrape together my pocket money for that, I suddenly realised that maybe I'm not ready yet.
I've been dancing for not quite one and a half years and my teacher says that I'm a natural at picking up the movements. I consider myself okay for where I'm at, but of course I'm only a baby dancer, my ego is not inflated yet![]()
How hard are her workshops? I've only ever done some videoclip dancing, never extensively hiphop, and I'm a little scared I won't be able to keep up with anything in the workshop. Will she make me break down and cry or will I be really challenged but learn a lot? I just think that being completely unable to do what she teaches would be very frustrating.
Would love to hear of your experiences,
Kjesta

Re: Anasma Workshops
Hey!
Anasma is coming to Montreal in Jan. so maybe I can answer better after that BUT... I attended workshops after only (a little less) 1 year of dancing and I don't regret it one bit. I remember having a hard time with Petite Jamilla's workshop (it was my first one) but it was an amazing experience anyways. I would say go for it, why not? There are some things you won't be able to do, maybe a lot, but you'll definitely learn from it. Go go go!

Re: Anasma Workshops
Oooh, I'd LOVE to hear from your experiences with Anasma! I'm in love with her style, so I can't wait to learn from her.
I'm feeling encouraged now. You're right, even if I don't manage to do something, I can still learn from it.

Re: Anasma Workshops
I took workshops with Anasma last year and she is a great instructor, breaks things down and has an eye for what the students need. Don't worry about being pushed too far in the workshop, though you will definitely be pushed as her dance style is amazing :)

Diddo to what's been said already!
Anasma came to London a few months ago and she was an absolute blast to study with. Funny, concise, high energy, amazing dancer. The class I attended was marked "Open Level'' and she made sure to give correction where needed, check on student's needs, and adapt things for those that needed it. Challenging, but I got a lot out of it.
Go for it-- you'll love her :)

Re: Anasma Workshops
I think there is no such thing as an "easy" Anasma workshop

I have hosted her 3 times here in Zurich and people love her! She is challenging - but also inspiring. It's not only a workout for the body but also for the brain.
Don't think that you have to be perfect at a workshop - you are there to learn. And I am sure that you will see that other people in the class having a little cloud of smoke over there head as their brains work overtime trying to get everything right
Go and have fun and take whatever you can get for yourself.

Re: Anasma Workshops
Anasma is Awesome - She's a really funny exciting explosion of a teacher, she's really positive and encouraging. Don't worry about not being able to keep up - she will always give you something you can do, with other things to work on getting! Workshops where you can do and already know everything the teacher teaches you are dull, and do not make the most of your learning monies, so don't worry about not being able to keep up with everything. Don't miss her!

Re: Anasma Workshops
I loved her workshops, especially the one on theatrical dancing, it was very inspiring. I am now considering attending the Theatrical bellydance convention in NYC... we'll see if my budget allows it

Her liquid fusion hip-hop workshop WAS challenging, but it was fun. I had to leave before the 4 hours were over, but it was great. Anasma is lovely.

Re: Anasma Workshops
Ditto everything others have said. It was me who hosted her in London and she was such an enormous success I'm bringing her back to do a course of intensives here every six months! She is so unique and so remarkable I wanted UK dancers to be able to study with her intensively.
If anyone is interested in studying with Anasma long term in London, email me at Charlotte at hipsinc dot com
The first ones are going to be early August and will be two days midweek.
