    POrtable sound system

I am fed up of weirdo sound systems. You know, the person says to you 'this is how it works - it's a bit temperamental, you have to burn a slipper and walk backwards around the room to get it to play right'- also those really annoying sound systems that make you go 'fast forward' (and I use the term loosely) in 10th or second increments.

I want a system, on wheels, that I can take in and out of venues. That has a memory facility to save places to pause and return to, that sounds good, and has no slipper burning requirement.

    Any suggestions?

That looks like the sort of thing - Can you pause & set places to come back to on it. I wish it could have both tape and CD. One of my fondest organiser moments was running up our main shopping high street, having found out at the start of the class that a tape deck was needed. We had to change the class around and run the first bit last, and the last bit first - while I went on a mission !

One of my instructors has one of those Bose system and while I don't know about it's memory functions, the sound quality is amazing. Including speakers, it's only about as big as a extra-large boombox, but don't let that fool you!

The downside is that they are, of course, rather expensive.

If I could have any sound system, that would be the one!

I use Coomber. They are are a UK firm in Worcester. It doesn't have a memory but you can spin it forward and back and find places on the Cds fairly easily. It is loud-mine fills one and a half badminton courts!! (not sure how they know). mine has a CD and tape deck. You can get them with just a CD. it is so simple to use.It also has a remote control which you can programme I think-I'm ashamed to say I'm such a technical dork I've never used my remote.
I take mine to all the workshops I do because I can never work other peoples systems and i hate fumbling about with the player while everybody stands around thinking how crap I am. Also because i can't read the labels on the controls with my contacts in.
Sorry I don't know the website but if you put Coomber in your search thingy you should get it. i got a carry case for mine from the same website and hike it round everywhere. The customer service team is very helpful.

Ive been researching this one for a while!!!! someone on the biz of bellydance tribe suggested a few. i have heard the fender in person!!! loved it!! the other 2 that ive researched i havent heard but the price is more in my range! im still debating. I will most likey get the fender when i get the money together. Its a toss up between the 150 and 250. But if anyone else has any feed back on the hollinger one, id love to hear about it. The holligner one i can get off ebay for $200. You can hook up your own cd player or tape deck to it as well as micro phone, guitar etc....

it comes in several versions, with or without cd/tape. mine doesnt have the pause/remember function, but i bought it two years ago, so that might have changed. it had long independence that was more of a concern for me (for outdoor teaching and performing), and has a head set.

I am thinking about getting a bose. I want something very small and portable with good sound quality and volume. Would like to use it with Cd's and a Ipod. Is this the best option for me?

    Re: POrtable sound system

The Bose SoundDock doesn't have a CD player. It is only for MP3 players/iPods. There is an AUX in where you can plug in an external CD player, so you could potentially find a CD player that has all the capabilities you are seeking for playback and just jack it in.

I use only my iPod now in all classes, and for troupe since we are in a room without a stereo, I had to research and buy a portable player. I nearly went with the Bose, but after a lot of reviews read and hubby also researching and offering his tech-brain input, I went with the Harmon Kardon Go+Play instead:
    harman/kardon

I have only had it a few weeks, but let me tell you...this thing can PUMP OUT SOUND! It has fabulous bass without distortion at high volumes, has a dock which integrates with nearly all iPod models, and a remote control that can also control the iPod remotely. It even tucks away in this great little compartment at the back so you never lose the remote in transport.

The big key for me was it had to have the option of battery power--which not all portable players have so keep an eye on that--and an auxiliary input for when I might want to play CD's instead of my iPod.

    So there's my mini review.

I love my SoundDock for small indoor spaces but I really love my audio engines for filling a big room. I even used em on a parade float! Not too portable (suitcase) but really clean.

its a little odd to carry around as its a cube, but sound is loud and good, has a built in sub woofer and best of all - you can change the colour of the stripe from red to green to blue!
