Beginner veil songs?
I need a song to use for a beginner veil choregraphy, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a song I don't already use....
Any suggestions? Preferably something I can download off of itunes or similar, because I need to start the choreography on Wednesday! .w.:
TIA!

On itunes, pangia has a few of their albums with short veil songs - T'Sagapo, Cleo'Pat'ra, Jemileh. All around 3 minutes.

Harry Saroyan's Tien Afto and Misirlou
John Bilezikjian's Bir Demet Yasemen, Jemilleh, Salla Sana Mendilini
Mary Ellen Donald's Norits Karoon Yegav, Cleopatra, Erev Shel Shoshanim
I have no idea which can be downloaded from online, because I don't use music downloading sites.

My current Veils playlist, for class:
Leh Khaletny (no idea who this is by, it's a CD that was given to me by a friend)
Windows in the East - Ron Goodwin Orchestra (it's on The Best Bellydance Album in the World Ever, vol 1, I think
Batwannis Bik - Warda
Salma Ya Salama - from a cheap compilation CD I got in France called Oriental Party
Ne Me Quitte Pas - Natacha Atlas, the Book of Secrets
Marco Polo - Lorena McKennit
No idea whether any of them is downloadable...

I use some of Amr Diab's medium paced songs for beginner/low-intermediate veil choreo.
Tamally Maak works well and should be available online!

I love John Bilezikjian's "Seni Sevdi" and "Mandouvala". "Seni Sevdi" was the first song for which I choreographed a dance and performed it onstage. :)

Scott Wilson's (Serena's son) music can be bought on itunes. He has good versions of "Bir Demet" and "Erev Shol". Just look up Scott Wilson or Efendi on itunes.

You can get one version of Salma Ya Salama at Yahoo for .99
Salma Ya Salama Sueno Flamenco (Hispano-Egyptienne Version) by Dalida on Yahoo! Music
translation for the lyrics are online also
I used this song for beginning veil choreography and the students have insisted on keeping the song in their repetoire because they love it so much!

I use Mummers' Dance by Loreena McKennett and fade it out at 3:27. I choreographed a simple veil routine to it for my beginner classes. It was quick to choreograph because the song is lovely and very easy to move to.

Available online:
Moonrise (or Moonlight?) Light Rain. First Am Cab veil choreography I learned, and I am still in love with the tune ;-) Anything by Light Rain is beautiful.
Miserlou by George Abdo. Erev El Shoashmin by Feenjon Group. Bir Damet - by Turku or Brothers of the Baladi.
