Thread: Best version of Al Hb Kla (all the love) Um Klthoum?

I need to sink my teeth into some Um Klthoum. I 'think' I want to use Al Hb Kla (El Hob Koloh, or whatever transliteration you prefer . . .) I would prefer a version with lyrics but I'll give a listen to any version you all can suggest. It's a little tricky searching with the varied English spellings and I'm having trouble finding cuts that aren't 40 minutes long and that don't contain applause. ANY 3-5 minute segment would make me happy. I am open to another artist's rendition of this song.

This is intended for an in-class workshop with my own mentor and not something I'd use with the beginners that I teach. I'm kind of a peppy girl and I really need to work on grace :-)

My favorite recording that I've found is this version:
El Hob Koloh
from album Dalaa El Helween, by Badia

It's 10:33 in length, but there is an "ending" and a break at about 5:46, and either the first part or the second part can stand alone as a complete piece. A lot of this version is instrumental, but there are sections with singing, a male voice.

El Hob Kolo is a great favorite of mine, so I'll be watching this thread.

There should be a few more versions floating around. Angham and George Wassouf have covered sections of it in cocktails (medleys) that you might be able to edit. Rehab Metawi is singing the verse that starts "al-hawa al-atshan fi albi binadah lak" in this clip, but I don't know if there is a recording of it beyond this video.

My favorite is the 8:27 version on Amani's gold album -- I think it's just called Amani and the Badawist.
