Thread: Brag about My Students!

Okay, I have the greatest students. I do. I want to share our hafla experience last night and brag on them.

Last night was my annual Holiday Hafla that I have for them.
It was at a great new restaurant in a fancy area in Denver.
Buffet, the whole works.

1 - two of my students started a Goddess Sized Troupe, and last night was their debut. They ROCKED the house.

2- Lots of my other students danced and did amazing. Especially in the group choreography. I taught a very challenging one and they rocked.
And now they never want to hear that song as long as they live ever! LOL!

3 - They completely surprised me and presented me with:

~ a leather clipboard (because I am notorious for losing paperwork, having paperwork crumbled at the bottom of my dance bag, etc.)
The leather clipboard was engraved in silver with Queen Maria on it.
(that's what my students lovingly call me)

~ A silver whistle, engraved with Queen Maria on it. (I always joke I'm going to get a whistle)

~ A leopard paddle to beat them with. (I always joke I'm going to get a cane-and they know my obsession with leopard)

~ A gift certificate to a local vendor. A VERY generous gift certificate!

* I was so surprised about the thoughtfulness of the gifts, I just LOVE my students....

Awww, Maria! How awesome! Clearly they love you, too.

They were so great last night. They all looked beautiful and danced beautifully.
I wish I had video...
but the lighting in restaurants, video never works.

My students Goddess Sized Troupe, Maka Unii,
Maka means earth in Lakota, (one of the gals is Lakota)
Unii means aunt/sister in Korean (one gal is Korean)

They did such a beautiful duet. These ladies met in my class a year ago, and hit it off. They are super close friends, and it came through in their dance.
It was so beautiful.....I am so proud of them I can barely stand it.

Their costumes: Julianna, the Lakota gal, she has her masters in design, and actually is a theatrical costumer, she made their costumes.
(The Korean gal is Pasha, my amazing student whom I took with me to Bahaia's dance camp) -

I'll try to explain the costumes.

A full fitted top, gorgeous blue velvet with white fur trim, (for the holiday party), matching blue velvet melodia type pants, without the slit, and those silver paillette hip scarves, made into a skirt to wear over it.

They looked STUNNING!

Just read my email - got one from my student, her husband took video of them. I didn't even notice I was so intent on watching them.
So hopefully it came out well! Here's hoping.

OMgosh, that is so sweet! I see the friendship part goes both ways!

That was so incredibly sweet of them. You must mean the world to them.

I love my students, fiercely, and they know that.

I just know Pasha was amazing!! Please if there is video of she and her duet partner dancing, I'd love to see it!! Give her a hug for me!!!

Yay Maria! Congrats! I am always so proud of my students after their big show every year, I know how it feels to be so happy when they do well!

Its so awesome to hear teachers talk so lovingly about their students. Obviously Maria, (or should I say Queen Maria!) you've done a great job and have every right to be proud!

It's not all roses - however, the vast majority of my students make teaching a joy!
I do have a wonderful group.

I should write what some of the signed on my card. I'll do that later, my card's up in my room, haven't had my coffee yet, and too lazy and tired to run up there.

There were some laugh out loud stuff on there.
