Hey, this series is even bringing me out of belly dance retirement. It sounds like pretty amazing instruction:

"Journey through Egypt" Intensive & Certification

Damn, that sounds wonderful! I hope she tours with it, or offers it repeatedly.

She taught this once in the Midwest - but only about six hours of it - so a sampler compared to this offering. It was great.

I am so happy Sahra is offering this! It is a great foundation for all dancers to have, and really puts so many elements of this dance into proper perspective. Sooooo worth the time, money and effort. I hope it sells out!

Wow, this sounds like a great workshop. Sahra is so knowledgeable, and generous with that knowledge. Hope she takes this one on the road!

i took a similiar workshop with her once & still have the notes. this the only thing i've seen in awhile that excites me. i wish she had a payment plan i'm brooooke!! tina

I was just coming to promote this! she also is doing several Oriental classes here in SoCal in January and early Feb. I am only bummed because I am in school two of hte weekends which she is here! The choices we have to make! Masters Degree, or studying with Sahra! ..cr.:

Thank you for your heart warming response to my newsletter. To be frank, I am still busy working on my mailing list, but I do want to answer all your questions. Here are the answers to the questions you most frequently asked.

Q. Will the Folklore workshop include your new research?
A. Yes. This year I continued research on Nubians in Aswan, on the Bedouins in southern Sinia, Zar music and Zar musicians of Egypt and Sudan, as well as numerous interviews of Nubians in diaspera. And yes, all of this will be part of the "Journey through Egypt" Basic 1 presentaion.


Q. What are the times of "Journey through Egypt" workshop?
A. The intensive workshop is 20+ hours, all within one weekend.
Friday night (January 24) 6pm-10pm (doors open at 5:45).
Saturday day (January 25) 10am - 6:30pm (doors open at 9:30am) 1 hr lunch break. Saturday night - 7:30pm Roxxanne invites us to her home (also in Heather Village) for a Zar experience (which will become a party at about 9pm).
Sunday (January 26) 10am - 6:30pm (doors open at 9:30) 1 hr lunch break. Then we hand out Certificates and a few awards for extra credit.

Q. Is there an airport and hotel nearby?
A. Culver City is very close to LAX airport.
There are hotels and a large shopping mall within walking distance to Heather Village.

MY NOTE:
By car - traffic is very bad Friday afternoon, get to Culver City early. (Maybe then hang out at the mall?)
By plane - I would advise you to arrive at least by early afternoon Friday, or Thursday night.
!! It is a Certificate workshop, only completed after 20 hours of classwork. It would be heart-breaking not to get the Certificate (or the full course) because your plane was late or traffic was bad.

Q. Can I take individual classes?
A. Sorry, No. Previously I would have said yes, but the exciting aspect of this weekend is that we can build on a base of knowledge and not have to start over with every dance zone, information is built on previous information.

Q. How do I pay? Can I use a credit card?
A. You can pay by check or through PayPal

You can go to PayPal's website and they can walk you through it. Through them you can use Visa, Mastercard, American express and Discover. I don't take credit cards myself, only through PayPal. Please write JtE if the payment is for "Journey through Egypt" intensive.

I know! There are about 3 majorly fantabulous things going on this weekend, and multiple other interesting things as well!! Ack!

Sahra is also doing Oriental classes that month. I'll dig up the dates. But, those classes are in Costa Mesa.

yep i just noticed the reda classes on a thursday that sound interesting. as yummy as the certification thing sound i think it's over kill for me in my area at my level. tina

I hear you, Tinah. I definitely don't need the certification aspect either - that's for sure, but I want the knowledge and this is the only time I've seen this made available in our neck of the woods.

I probably won't be able to keep up considering I haven't dropped a hip or lifted one since August, I think. oh well....I'll enjoy the info. whether I can do it or not.

Hmmm...Dani, that would be SO fun... let me check on the miles thing... so far I've never been able to get a flight where I wanted to go when I wanted to go, but gotta keep trying...

Lauren has pointed out that the 24th is Thursday not Friday so I think Sahra got confused on her dates.

Man, I was all ready to book a flight, and then realized that's a workshop weekend here in St. Louis. With Shahna of Little Rock, who I adore. Shoot. Now I'm torn.
