Ta da, here is my latest article, incorporating just a few of the funny blunders revealed here on bhuz: Jewel Bellydance - Belly dance classes melbourne Australia ::: Articles. It's the first file. Happy reading! I hope I have done your stories justice.

Thank you so much all those who gave permission for their quotes to be used. If any of you has any concerns, I still have power to change the article, so let me know!

Yay! I'm honoured! Great website! Thanks for letting us know!
Actually, the funny thing is I never lost a cane until that one time at the Lebanese Festival, which was the first time I used a rubber band on my cane.
You can be sure I removed it after that show and I haven't lost a cane since.
Hm, maybe false sense of security with the rubberband??

Oh no, I don't want to hear that!!! I guess one person's solution is another person's nightmare. Still, it made for a great story!

    Sorry sorry, lah!
I guess the moral of THAT story is: test every rig before you perform with it!

..l;, You want another solution vs. nightmare one? There's a very good reason that, if I'm wearing a good ol' fashioned heavy bra-and-belt set, I will pin the skirt to my panties OR I will pin the skirt to my belt, but never, never, never again will I pin the belt to the skirt to the panties.

...Fortunately, I caught the belt in the front while facing forward (it hooked a little off to the side) as it started to plummet (fast moving hands...), but make no bones about it--that puppy had in mind to take me down--skirt, panties, and all.

So...if I'm in that kind of costume, I just pick my undies veeery carefully. I keep several pair in my bag for "difficult costumes." I like to know that if all heck breaks loose, at least I'll still be wearing my panties.

Nya ha ha! Perhaps we need to wear 4 layers - underwear (panties...that word sounds really wierd to Australian ears...hard for me to type it!!!) then boyshorts then skirt then belt. Pin through top three layers while preserving modesty with bottom layer. And then we'll start looking like dancing eskimos, but at least we won't flash at the audience!

It just goes to show, no one solution is right for everyone, except for the golden rule of practicing in costume beforehand...and bringing safety pins!

Thank you everyone for the nice comments!

    ..l;, ROTHFLMAOSTC

Well, whatever it takes to keep the audience happy and not "overexposed," I guess. Dressing in layers it is!

But in all seriousness, very nice article, Jewel. Way to go!

Oh, this thread has popped up again. Down under, we call 'panties' 'undies' (or more correctly, 'underwear'). Or if you're talking to a kid, 'knickers'. The word panties is something that would be used in soft porn or bad erotica "Sighing, she felt him slip a hand down her panties...." ..g.:

By the way, I'm presenting a workshop based around this article for our upcoming dance festival. There's a performance night attached, in which we're supposed to dance in the style of our workshop. Perhaps I should perform a series of blunders? Grand entrance with veil, twirl and get it caught in overhanging chandelier, trips on skirt as it creeps down butt, grabs at skirt and bra pops open, whirl around to run off stage and hair-piece goes flying through the audience....
