My Youtube Video, up on the chopping block!
Sorry for the crazy hands. Improv, last minute, I was a little nervous.

You're dancing looked nice to me, but I wouldn't know where to start with feedback because it's not my style. You might also want to try posting it on the feedback for dancers tribe.
ETA: They seem to have a good balance for oriental and fusonists over there.

Brave you for seeking feedback! :0)
You have nice technique, just watch the "flippy hands" b/c they distract from your isolated hip work.
You pay attention to your music, which is always good!

Re: My Youtube Video, up on the chopping block!
OK, I am not an advanced level dancer or expert at all, but here are my overall impressions. I thought you moved nicely, your musicality was good, your arms were graceful and lovely, and I didn't see anything wrong with your hands! While I did not mind the instrumental portion of the music and the melody was kinda cute, the vocals of the music just struck me as rough and unrefined and incongruent with your graceful dancing. The singer's voice made me picture a bar brawl with those vocals as a soundtrack, or maybe some burly men in loincloths doing a slapstick number, but not the dancer my eyes were seeing. So just as an "audience member" and not an expert, I had a bit of a time getting past the song choice, though that just might be a matter of personal taste. I didn't understand what was said when you were introduced, or what exactly the singer was saying, so apologies if I missed any meaning behind it.

I agree with watching the flippy hands. I have the exact same issue with my dancing (I've been told my instructors and just sat down to watch a video last night...ouch). other than that, I have nothing else really big offer. you do have great musicality and comfort, it seems. pretty dancer (and brave to post)...

the dancing was good, but i realllly did not like the song. i guess i'm too traditional to get into fusiony things. but your dancing looked really good to me!

Re: My Youtube Video, up on the chopping block!
Good performance! And good on you for posting your clip for feedback. You have really strong hipwork, and overall I thought this was a really competant performance. I didn't really find the hands too 'floppy', but I felt like I wanted to see stronger (less fluid) arm positions and movements to match the feel of the hip work and the song. For eg, you do a jump into a shimmy which is realy strong and dynamic and matches the music perfectly. I felt like the arms needed to have that feel more.
I've gotta say, I felt like the music was too angry in parts, and I think it could be quite alienating to audience members that aren't into that sound. We all get totally into different types of music, and that's fine, but I think it's good not to inflict our more extreme choices on our audiences (whether it be heavy metal, gangsta rap or the Chicken Dance).

Re: My Youtube Video, up on the chopping block!
I watched this the first time with no sound and LOVED it - you are a beautiful and graceful dancer with strong technique. Once I rebooted and had music, however, it gave a whole different feel....wasn't my cup of tea. I think I had envisioned some light Egyptian orchestration the first time. To each his/her own! Was there a specific reason for this music selection?

I am going to agree that the music was distracting.
I didn't have any problems with your arms, but I would suggest you work on rolling your shoulders back as they appear to be crawling up to your ears. This will also help with the balancing the arms and hips.
Overall, though, it was lovely!

I don't mind the music, but I do feel that the movements were a little too fluid for it (though it was lovely). Perhaps a little bigger, bouncier with less turns and a few hops.

Re: My Youtube Video, up on the chopping block!
Well, at least the dancing fine. LOL. I get in these really wierd moods where I love love love classical egyptian, then pop, then tribalish music, or upbeat turkish. The song is "Ultimate" by Gogol Bordello, a self proclaimed Gypsy Punk Rock band. It's true, they are a little raw probobly too much for my dancing. They're so full of emotion though and I really do love them, so I need to work on roughing my arms up when nesscesary.
Keep the feedback coming!
Hows my stage pressence? (something I've been working on)
Posture? (Always had problems with it)
Stylization? What should I be working on?
Thanks again ladies, these little sessions are always so helpful!
