Henkesh drum solo CD now available
My latest album, Pulse of the Sphinx, is now available - with the booklet free of charge to follow in the summer. Recorded in Cairo by the Henkesh brothers it is full of wonderful tabla solos by Egypt's master drummers. It has 10 performance solos, one live performance from Egypt (with 10 percussionists), one 7 minute instructional track with the rhythms and basic sounds, and 6 drill solos of unusual rhythms. There are over 76 minutes on the CD. For more info or to order please look here:

Re: Henkesh drum solo CD now available
Some of us have been lucky enough to have a preview of this CD...and we're all chompin at the bit to get it to be able to work/play with it. Top quality Egyptian style tabla solos are few and far between...and this CD is chock full of 'em. Mid-tempo ones, fast ones, all with great build, ones with juicy slowed down sections, dynamic changes, lots of fours (to be intuitive) but not ALL fours (so very organic in feel), endings with POW! *sigh*
Oh, and one (or is it two) of the rhythm explanations ...oh, just charming and cute in a way only Egyptians can do. *sigh* (again)....I don't want to give it away, though, you'll have to hear it. ..g.:
The drills are great to drill with and fantastic for classes.

I've been listening to the drum solos CD and Dancing with Genies non-stop since they arrived--thank you so much for releasing these albums! They're highly educational without losing any sense of the brilliant artistry of the music and musicians. The routines on Dancing with Genies are about my idea of perfect

Thanks -- I saw the link but didn't have time to fill in all the info, so was hoping to find an easier transaction like Paypal. But I didn't know it was on Amazon. Thanks for that info!

Re: Henkesh drum solo CD now available
Yasmin, I adore the cd! Thank you so much for making this music available. It is truly a sound for sore ears as most cds in my library have these flat, stale, and even synthesized drum solos that are completely predictable.
Pulse of the Sphinx is the cure with the variety of tracks, varied tempos and rhythm changes, skilled and passionate performers. And with all these canned drum solos on the market, it is a luxury to have TWO drummers on every track.
P.S. Thank you for all the usable tracks!!! I consider myself lucky if there is ONE track on the cd I can perform to, and Pulse of the Sphinx is loaded with them! At the risk of sounding irreverent, I think the drill tracks are exciting and dynamic enough for performance.

Re: Henkesh drum solo CD now available
Holy crap, this album and I just now "clicked". I bought it as soon as it came out and it didn't reach right out and grab me. No good reason, just didn't get around to paying it enough attention, and sometimes music, even awesome music, sort of has to mull around in my head for a while before it clicks in.
The drum solos are awesome, interesting, well recorded, and really useful lengths. I appreciate that each drum solo actually ends with an ending, and some have little bowout sections after the ending that can be used or edited out as the situation warrants.
Excellent album!
