    Fan Veilzz DVD w/Mahsati Janan

I'm not sure if this has been posted on here yet, but has anyone seen the Fan Veilzz DVD that our own Mahsati Janan has produced? What did you think about it?
I am thinking about posting a review but...1) I've never reviewed a DVD before and 2) I'm actually in the DVD so I think I might be just a tad biased!

Although I just might write a review later I'd like to hear what Bhuzzer have to say too!

Re: Fan Veilzz DVD w/Mahsati Janan

    Hi All,

I am very very interested in purchasing this DVD. I have never learned from a DVD before, and therefore would LOVE some input!!! I am a intermediate dancer, and have good veil experience but near zero fan dance experience. I currently own a pair of fan veils, but I don't feel I know what I'm doing because it seems it's more of a fan than a veil.
If anyone has used this DVD, please post some comments, brief or details. I would greatly appreciate it!!!

    Thanks in advanced!!

A Review - Fan Veilzz DVD w/Mahsati Janan

    Hi All,

I did eventually purchase this DVD. The decision was based on one fanveil performance by Mahsati on youtube, and I thought her performance was wonderful!! (*Note* I found a performance that is not related to the DVD). I liked her style a lot more than other artists that I have seen who also have DVDs on fan veils.

I decided to post my opinion of this DVD because there were no comments about it on Bhuz.com. I have never reviewed a DVD so let me know if there's anything I can do to improve this.

    My background:
I do not have any experience dancing with fans, but I am pretty experienced with veils. I have played around with fan veils but have never taken a class. I have been dancing for about 3 years, and I am also a member of a dance ensemble.
This is the first DVD I have used to learn how to dance with a prop.

    First glance:
The DVD is broken down into several sections as listed on the packaging. The menu is straight forward and has a nice look to it.

    DVD Content:
Mahsahti's teaching style is pretty mellow, which is nice. It is pretty clear to me that she has a solid foundation in fan veil work (as I would expect) as she teaches it in a very natural, straightforward manner.

The fan veil moves were not difficult, but it was difficult for my left hand (non-dominant hand) to get used to holding the fan, which Mahsahti has brought up several times in the DVD. She goes over basic things like holding the fan, and basic moves for single fan, and double fan, such as waves, flutters, and turning, as well as using the fan in both open and closed positions. However, I was a bit disappointed that there were not more combination moves.

Although she speaks at a good pace, there were times when I felt a bit rushed when performing the moves. This might also be related to me trying to dodge my furniture in my small apartment and my small mirror.

The performances were a nice. The performances are pretty tribal-ish, and gave me good ideas. My favorite was Mahsahti's tribal fusion performance. Her versatility with the fan veil is awe-inspiring for me.

    Summary:
All in all, I would recommend this DVD to those who have little to no experience dancing with fan veils. I am by no means an expert after one viewing, but I did manage to choreograph a fan veil dance after viewing this DVD (I was kind of "stuck" before, simply learning from youtube). However, if one has taken a class or two in fan veil dancing, this is probably too basic.

I read somewhere that Mahsahti may produce a Level 2 fanveil DVD. I will probably buy it based on my experience with this Level 1 DVD.

Thanks for reading!! Hopefully this helps some of the bhuzzers out there!! ..g.:

    Comments and suggestions are appreciated!!
