Re: Bellydance for pregnancy DVD
personally - I kept on dancing regularly. Avoid any movements that limit room for baby - like ab locks. You also need to watch yourself - you are more flexible when you are preggers and can injure yourself easier.
I danced up to the final days and even did undulations in the delivery room!
Sorry - rambling
As for videos - I just bought a pregnancy for bellydancers video. Will let you know what I think when I receive it

Re: Bellydance for pregnancy DVD
I don't have direct experience of being pregnant and bellydancing, but I really like this video:
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Prenatal-Bellydance-Naia/dp/B000E6GDXS]Amazon.com: Prenatal Bellydance: Naia: Movies & TV[/ame]
It's well-researched, safe (IMO), and enjoyable. I'd recommend it not just for the expectant and postnatal crowd but for anyone who wants a workout that is gentle but still danced. A couple of my students tried it (one younger pregnant chickie, one older lady with arthritic knees/ankles) and they both enjoyed it and felt comfortable working with it. I believe Shira gives it a good review on her site -- check there for more details if you're interested.

Re: Bellydance for pregnancy DVD
My suggestion is to do a lot of walking and upperbody work -do a regular bellydance class - as said before no locks and actually hip locks are bad also. There may be dancer teachers in your area that specifically teach pre-natal bellydance.

Re: Bellydance for pregnancy DVD
There's a review of Naia's Prenatal Bellydance on my web site at Belly Dancing: Shira's Reviews of Fitness Videos, Arranged Alphabetically . One thing I like about it is that a nurse-practitioner specializing in ob-gyn was consulted to ensure that the workout is safe and consisted with American College of Obstetrics recommendations.

Re: Bellydance for pregnancy DVD
I can totally understand why pelvic locks forward would be bad...but why hip locks/piston hips?
I danced through 2 pregnancies, up until I was 3cm dilated with my youngest (2 years old this week!) and had no problems doing hip locks at all.
It was always the upper body undulations that felt wierd/off to me...
Belly rolls with the baby were awesome, though. He would be really, super still while I did them, and then kick like mad when I stopped. ..l;,

Re: Bellydance for pregnancy DVD
hello everybody :)
I ve been told Amira from Las Vegas, who has an extremely popular and acclaimed absolute beginner dvd (bellydance 101 with Amira), will soon release a belly dance pregnancy/yoga dvd..
I think her teaching is fantastic, the calmest/most friendly/encouraging one I ve ever experienced - so I think this dvd might be a good option, a bit late for ladies pregnant now, maybe :)

Re: Bellydance for pregnancy DVD
Amira just had her baby on Aug. 7th. I know she finished filming a while ago. I can't give you an exact release date, but I'm so excited to see how it turned out. She interviewed me since I danced my way through two pregnancies myself. Her website is Amira - International Emissary of Dance...

Re: Bellydance for pregnancy DVD
My personal thoughts are that you can basically do anything you were doing prior to getting pregnant while you are pregnant as long as you listen to your body and don't push yourself too far. I had no hesistation doing shimmies.

A well known Australian dancer Jrisi Jusako's has released a DVD for pregnancy also. See link below. I'm pregnant myself and quite enjoyed it. There is partner stretching, appropriate choreography and my personal favourite, a detailed docomentary about belly dance and pregnancy including interviews with alot of different dancers. :)
