Hadia's Oriental Technique Vol 3
Nadia Gamal's Workshop (from the 70s)
Hillary Thacker for Advanced
Any Faten Salama dvd (except, of course, the basics dvd) is a good challenge.
Now, this is my version of "advanced" (I like to say challenging) dvds. There are many more that could be considered more challenging than these. What exactly are you looking for?

Maybe Jillina's new Drum solo? I found that one to be pretty challenging.

The Belladonna troupe has a new advanced dvd out. I will let you know about that one since it's in the mail. I should receive it soon. Looks interesting.

Re: recommendations for advanced dvds
Hadia's video's are all great, I also love Aradia's Egyptian, lebanese and Turkish dance video, tons of info and combo's.
I'm also enjoying Yasmin Ramsey's instructionals, all 3 have very advanced moves and combinations/choreo's. Aradia does part of her vidoe with her back to the camera, that helped a lot since I can't tell my right from left when I'm facing the teacher, I end up mirroring instead of listening to the instruction...c::

Hadia and Yasmina Ramzy
I'd also like to try Sahra Saeeda and Shareen El Safy's, but am unable to vouch for them as of yet.

Re: recommendations for advanced dvds
what do you call advanced? Are you looking for technique or choreography? Either way if you can stand the not so great sound and you're a visual learner you can extract a lot from the Raqia Hassan dvds and if that's a style you're in to.

Shareen's videos are now available as dvds and you could have a lifetime of studying them over and over again. More than just choreography. I watch them with a notepad in hand.

Re: recommendations for advanced dvds
How is the chaptering on Shareen's videos? Ie, do the chapter breaks occur at logical points such as where she's starting to introduce the next combination, or do they occur rigidly every 10 minutes regardless of where in the "flow" that occurs?
The reason for asking is that a friend showed me her DVD "Exploring the Drum Solo" and the chapter breaks were rigidly every 10 minutes, with no thought whatsoever to where that fell in the continuity of the material, so it was necessary to fast-forward or rewind o ge to a meaningful place in the instruction. I believe this was very early in her efforts to move her material to DVD, so I'm wondering whether she continued to do this, or whether she went to a more viewer-friendly approach on subsequent DVD's.

Re: recommendations for advanced dvds
No, Houston TX. I got the dvd and it's a cute choreography with finger cymbals. Each member of the troupe shows a couple of combinations about three times and then moves on to the next dancer. I'd say it's a Intermediate dancer level dvd.
Got Sadie's Thrillin' Drillin' dvd today - it's a killer, really! She goes into a lot of hip and stomach work also layering foot work with hips and chest movements. That's an Advanced level dvd for sure.

Re: recommendations for advanced dvds
I was just going to suggest Sadie's Thrillin (got it last week) and my teacher got her sultry moves (just did a quick preview last night). She also has the drum solo, haven't seen it but I bet it's challenging.
Now I'm buying Sadie's sultry moves and the drum solo for me.

Re: recommendations for advanced dvds
Sadie's Thrillin' DVD is excellent.
Full of drills rather than choreography that get sequentially layered to improve over all control and technique and which can be used in your own way and style.
I also have her other two DVDs which I think are excellent.
Trouble is, I have these DVDs but don't spend enough time working with them.
I keep ending up working out my own choreographies for teaching or working on solo improvised or choreographed pieces for performance.
I may be without my own teacher this Fall so I plan to spend specified times each week using the DVDs that I have to drill with . . . Sadie, Tamra-henna, Tamalyn, Aziza.
