Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knows whether Lulu Sabongi's DVD/VHS releases come in English or with English subtitles? She is Brazilian so I'm guessing they are in Portuguese... ? If anyone has experience with them, please let me know what you thought and if I would be able to "understand" the movements just by watching (if there are no subtitles).
Thanks in advance! :)

Thank you!
That is fantastic news!! EEEEeeeeeeehehehe! *squealing with delight!*
I LOVE, love, LOVE the way she dances, and since it's highly unlikely I'll be traveling to Brazil to study with her any time soon the videos will have to do for now.
Anybody else have any good reviews or info on them?

I have several. I think they're great. Mine don't have subtitles though, which is ok because Portuguese is so similar to spanish that I can understand them.
She uses the same format in all her DVD's, which is that she first talks about the move and explains it, then she demonstrates how it's done, wearing just regular class attire, usually lycra pants and a hipscarf, and then she has one of her dancers do a performance in full costume using the move that she's just taught. This is done for each and every move. The quality of the DVD's is very good. Well lit, good sound, and very clear.
I have:
Hip technique...which is great. She teaches all kinds of hip moves.
Traveling steps tecnique...Very very good. Lots of travelling steps
Begginer Technique...teaches begginer steps
Veil technique..interesting and fun moves with the veil
Drum solo Techninque...very good also
Rhythms #1...teaches arabic rhythms and instruments
Rhythms #2...I can't remember what's on this, but I have it, and its different from rhythms #1.
And a performance DVD of Lulu and Soraia..mostly Lulu though. I like it.
I think they're worth every penny, and they teach many of the same steps we already know but with a brazilian "twist".
There's also a few steps that I haven't seen before or that are done in a different way. The costumes in these videos are a feast for the eyes. Very different to Egyptian or Turkish costumes, that's for sure.
Regards

Thanks Priscilla for all of the details!
I guess I will have to look into finding the ones that do have subtitles. Glad to know they are worth it. :)

I have a Brazilian dance student who picked up several on her trip home earlier this year -- all performance, though, not instructional. No subtitles that I remember from seeing a few of them. She also brought me one entitled "Brazilian Belly Dance Super Stars" -- again, no English subtitles, but lots of great dancing.
