I actually didn't think it was Hilary (sorry for the spelling) but then I saw this:

I have it:
dodgy intro and ideas.
Ok basic instruction...no harm done
Nice use of students makes it look accessable..I hope they get some benefit from the production
quality of filming good
better than a certain Merseyside teacher by a looong way
not as good as Galit Mersands if you want a UK one.

From someone not knowing much about the "industry" nor the people in it:
If this were true, ok.
From the dvds and internet info I ve experienced over the past year I cannot say I saw anyone (any female performer/producer/instructor) trying to exclude any "type of woman" from it to render this kind of marketing of the dvd necessary.
Now assuming my impression is correct (that the industry is not *that* elitist/exclusive/catty) I find the marketing shady and immoral.
This marketer is basically "slandering" and "dividing" his/herself by his/her approach. Looks like a guerilla tactic, and to me it does not fit the alleged message of comprehensive- and inclusiveness.

Not to say the video cannot be good, but I personally am very sensitive to irresponsible and bashing marketing strategies (I have a business background, doing my PhD in management, so while I do know a thing or two I must admit I ve never fancied marketing nor the "prototype" human being inclined to it in business schools - so I might have some subjectivity bias here I guess ).

Hmmm may I ask what Merseyside teacher you are referring to? dvd instruction? would be helpful to know if you are talking about a dvd as I have an insatiable appetite for (beginner to intemediate) instructionals and have been accumulating a crazy amount over the past year.. and I mean crazy, no insane actually (working with 3 or 4 only so far :)

So you might save me a buy I d regret..
the instruction by this bellydanceschool looks quite interesting, but so do most trailers :) would you say it has anything different from most good US instructionals ?
like Amira s 101, WDNY, Michelle Joyce etc etc? I find I need a change of routine quite often to improve, yet with the same beginner movements if that makes any sense.. I see myself improve switching often between different beginner instructionals teaching most of the same with a slight twist in it..
for that I think this Cara video looks pretty decent...
anyone tried it/more specific info about what it teaches and how well?

I agree. I thought that clip seemed pretty divisive itself. I thought to myself "Oh obviously she's mad at somebody in the area and made this to make a point."

Honestly, if it wasn't because of my curiousity, I would not have watched the clip after the first negative message.
Why are you trying to teach me something that will introduce me into an "industry" with so much negativity going on?

More so, as a beginner, I would never see bellydancing as an "industry" but as a new hobby.

That clip would totally convince me that after all, I'd better go and look out for a flamenco class

Exactly - I as a beginner (interested though, and reading as much as I can on the "industry" online) had a huge grin on my face when this industry "depression" and negativity showed up - are they marketing beginner moves to a depressed pro or what ;)

Based on the posture being demonstrated in the clip, I'd be wary. Scary shizz...

I haven't got Galit's tuition DVD because I am lucky enough to go to her classes! If they are anything to go by it will be good stuff thoughtfully paced and the music carefully chosen to help you learn the movements being practised.

I started with her as a brand new beginner and I was sooooo lucky; when I read about some teachers .....
