    Qusat Al Hai A Sha'abi review

    Okay -- so I haven't gotten the dvd of the musical comedy about two serial killer sisters yet.w.:, but I did get this dvd (which I ordered from Pyramid Imports cause Maqam didn't have any available then)

    Various Artists - Qusat Al Hai Al Shaabi (Inner City Story) #01DG1000091

    I got it because, well, there was Saad on the front cover . . . .

    I watched it last night. Gotta be the dumbest storyline ever (think 3 stooges only maybe a bit more offensive). Short storyline shorter: older bandleader marries older dancer because he wants to inherit copyright to song they made together; older dancer has daughter who has been missing since she was 6 (20yrs), older dancer dies day after the wedding, lawyer says daughter inherits everything, bandleader and brothers (including Saad) go looking for daughter, have stupid adventures along the way, find daughter, daughter is western singer (they call it country singer, but the song is Hey Big Spender or something like that)and who has been entered into a signing contest by conniving guardians and boyfriend, she returns with bandleader and brothers, decides to sign in contest to win money to pay mother's/bandleader's debts, trouble ensues but . . .and you can guess the end of course.

    Saad wasn't mentioned in the description on the cover (at least not in the part in English!), but he has a large supporting role being his usually goofy self. But the musical numbers are a hoot -- this youtube is clips from the movie:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZHwW1nmTAc]YouTube - Sa3d Sghir & Amina - el Hantour/ arabische musik arabic cha[/ame]

    So if you don't mind wading through the hopelessly hokey and predictable plotline, the music is too much fun. Oh -- since there are subtitles, the songs are all translated .

    Kat, thanks for the review. I had seen the video clip and was wondering what on earth was going on! Is the singer wearing the black pants and fez the daughter?

    Nope. It's the singer Amina (I think that's her name) who has a hit with that song (BDSS Vol. 5?). She has no other role in the movie that I can remember. She was just the entertainment in a scene in a nightclub.

    er, just want to say that it's a singing contest that she sings in (not a signing contest that she signs in!!!) LOL I'm such a dork.

    you're so right.... I loved the music. Though el Balady (the final song) was my fave.
