Thread: New Habibi Magazine - Just Got One!

I was able to pick up a free copy of Habibi magazine, the one with Salome on the cover, at the Jim Boz workshop this weekend, and have to say I was pretty impressed.

The articles were interesting and seemed well researched, not a lot of fluff. I never got to read the original Habibi magazine, but from what people have said about it, it seems like it's going back to the old format of more historical/academic type articles. My favorite article was "In the Shadow of Salome," which was an honest look of how bellydance has been viewed as a dance of seduction, both in the West and the East.

I'm just wondering now how the magazine is doing with its publishing schedule. I see the Salome edition says Fall/Winter 2006/2007. Well, it's June of 2007 already, and I'm not aware that a Spring issue ever came out. Does anyone know? I don't want to subscribe until I know they can come out on a more regular schedule than the last incarnation of Habibi.

I am a subscriber, and I have received only one issue from the new management so far - the issue that you saw, which I received about 5-6 months ago.

I had an active subscription to Habibi before it went under. I was under the impression that my subscription would continue with the new mag but I'm very surprised to hear that new issues are out b/c I have not received anything!!! Shira, are you a new subscriber or is your subscription continuation of the old magazine??

Does anyone have a current email contact for Habibi? I have not received an issue this year and I seem to remember having at least two issues due.

My subscription is a continuation of the old one.
