review of azhia's make-up DVD!
GET IT,GET IT,GET
IT!
i've been using make-up and stage for YEARS! gotten decent at it, but this DVD gave me some new and interesting things to play with, better applications, and alot of tips that i'm still using!
whether you're brand new to make-up and need the soup to nuts tips, or an old hand that does it all, you'll learn something wonderful and useful!
she uses her own face for the instructional parts, and other faces to show how those looks/techniques work on other skin tones, face shapes, gender, etc.
it starts with simple application (useful for everyday), and then how to embellish and play for the wow/glam factor.......
the best tools, looks and embellishments, best, easiest applications, even a section on hair......
every dancer should have this in their DVD collection........if you do a 'raq the camera with her', BUY THE DVD to supplement it so you can keep the look she gives ya going........
i've even recommended to my theater friends......i just did a production of 'funny thing happened on the way to the forum', and they wanted the make-up super exotic and over the top........i used the tips in the dvd cuz the lights are HARSH and had me under a colored gel, and normal performance make-up wasn't enuf.......what i learned from the DVD was just the ticket!

Re: review of azhia's make-up DVD!
(Copied & pasting my post yesterday on Azhia's "YouTube Teasers" thread:)
Just wanna say I have both Azhia's dvds: I believe these are MUST-HAVEs in anyone's video library, if you career requires your image to be "out there" viewed by an audience/clients/public. I especially love the Basic Makeup dvd b/c I used to be so confused with all the "trade tools" in the market now, never mind the sheer volume of tool types, as well as the vast number of makeup & hair products and how to use them! False eyelashes were my absolute nemesis--now since the video & in-person session w/Azhia, I use them happily anytime I have an event (not just bellydance, like family weddings for example:)).
My Husband even sat enthralled & fascinated through the whole dvd & rewinds of sections with me!!! He's so metrosexual!

Re: review of azhia's make-up DVD!
I'm just gonna jump in!
Yes.
No.
Yes.

I assume that not everyone knows everything about makeup but I don't insult anyone's intelligence. There is a 70+ page booklet that you access through your browser (it's a PDF) chocked full of information that supplements the techniques shown on the DVD.
Buying products is the last thing I want you to do. With the exception of brushes, you can use whatever you already have, from whatever brands you prefer.
I hope this helps!

Re: review of azhia's make-up DVD!
One thing I love about the DVD is that it gives you multiple ways to do things. There are many suggestions about different false eyelashes that I loved. Now - I am a false lash master - LOL
I also like how you can jump ahead and just view one section. Like - I wanna do smokey eyes. A view of the DVD menu and instant instruction...
love it!
I have also been getting great feedback from people who have bought it from me. They love it!

Re: review of azhia's make-up DVD!
I did not know it at the time, but yours was the instructional "youtube" on false eyelashes that I watched a while back! Although I am new to bd, I am a performer in the skating world (ice shows) and my makeup must "pop" so I am going to get your dvd.
I think I will get the other dvd as well, I figure it's like yoga, you do what you can and eventually you will be able to build UP to the more advanced movements.
Thanks, Azhia!

Re: review of azhia's make-up DVD!
I'm *really* interested in this DVD (both of Azhia's actually), but I'd like to get a better sense of what's on them. The video clips gave me a good idea of what the instruction is like (great), but not of exactly what they cover. Would anybody be willing to post a list of what's covered (like a table of contents)?

Re: review of azhia's make-up DVD!
No problemo!
Vol. 1 (Preparation, Drills, Cool Down):
-Warm up of all areas of the body to prime for BD
-Drills of all the shapes endemic to ME dance at different speeds and various styles to accommodate your personal dance style
-Intro to Beyond Basics: how you can tailor your warm up/practice session to accommodate where you want to improve/skill level/ and dance style
-Cool Down
-The entire sequence can be done to prepare you for your own dance rehearsal, before teaching a class, or as its own dance-oriented workout. I place important emphasis on arm placement, posture, and carriage.
-Performance to music by Animus
Vol. 2 (Basic Makeup for Performance & Photography:
-48 very specific and basic techniques for makeup and hair, accommodating to all ages, complexions, genre of dance, and gender
-70+ page PDF booklet to supplement the techniques
-7 Before/After models
-Performance to music by Animus
Vol. 3 (Yes, I'm planning a volume 3!!):

Re: review of azhia's make-up DVD!
To answer your question would require me to post the scripts to both DVDs in their entirety. Also, there are various dance terms for similar things so it may not indicate what it might mean to you, if that makes sense. What is it that you are looking for and I'd be happy to tell you if it's in the DVDs?

Re: review of azhia's make-up DVD!
Not at all! I wouldn't expect you to share any information on how to do them, just a list of what's included.
For example, an imaginary makeup video might include the following techniques:
- analyzing face shape and features
- choosing colors to suit you
- considerations for different lighting conditions
- preparing your face to apply makeup
- choosing and applying foundation
- choosing and applying concealer
- creating a smoky eye look
- creating a natural eye look
- creating an exotic eye look
(etc., etc.)
i.e., your sample videos are titled "Technique 21: False Lashes, Full Band" and "Technique 46: Backcombing". That's all I need to know.
The list of techniques will help me figure out if this is something I should move from my "check out someday" list to my "buy right this minute" list. :)
Thanks!
Nadira
p.s. if you don't already have it, I'd LOVE to see tips on choosing, buying, and putting on hairpieces in a future volume.

Re: review of azhia's make-up DVD!
Everything that you listed in the imaginary makeup video is there plus more (basically every single aspect of putting on makeup, from foundation to concealer, to eyes, to cheeks, to contouring, to lips SPECIFIC TO stage and photography), including how to curl/straighten/blow dry hair and "installing" hair pieces. The 70+ booklet explains appropriate color/product selection.
Every drill of every shape in ME dance is in Vol. 1, plus how to make them more difficult, arm drill section, shimmy section.Last edited by Azhia; 02-07-2009 at 05:02 PM.

Re: review of azhia's make-up DVD!
Ok, I know this thread is old, but I just had to say I bought this DVD and it's one of the best things I've ever bought! In my circle of friends I'm considered the make-up expert. I also am a total MAC a holic. I bought this DVD because I'm having my first photo shoot next weekend and I wanted to get some tips. However, this DVD has totally revolutionized my make-up applications! The subtle tips and techniques make all the difference in the world! So this make-up diva totally bows down to Azhia! Thank you for making this video!

I need this, since I stink at putting on make-up these days. Now that I am over 30 and just had a baby I just can't seem to get it right anymore. I have to buy this DVD so I can learn some tips,
Kevin Aucoin books can only take you so far.Last edited by bdaddiction; 07-08-2009 at 08:40 PM.
