Saida & Mario Kirlis DVDs?
I'm thinking of getting one of the Saida & Mario DVD sets. I see there's a volume 1 & 2 now. Has anyone seen either of these and can you offer any feedback? I'm not sure if I should start with 1 or just jump into 2.
I also found this clip, which I really like, but I can't tell if it's from Volume 1 or 2. Does anyone know?

That clip is from vol. 1 and IMO, 1 is better than 2.

I like them both! They both have a TON of info and performances! Vol. 1 is a choreography to a raks sharki piece and vol 2 is a choreography to a baladi taksim. My only dislike is that they're filmed from the front, so I have to put them in the mirror. Vol 2 has English subtitles, I'm pretty sure that vol 1 doesn't.

If you like Saida then I'd say both dvd's are a must have! I ended up trading mine because I found it frustrating that they are not in English. However, I also had em both for several years.

I thought it said there were English subtitles. Well, I'll have it in a couple days, and we'll see.

My copy of Vol. 1 has English subtitles, but I've only had it for about a month so maybe they added the subtitles more recently. I really like vol. 1 as I like the way they break down the rhythms in the music they use. I don't have vol. 2, but am curious about it.

Re: Saida & Mario Kirlis DVDs?
They both have subtitles and they are both great. Like vron said, if you like Saida these are a must.
I was a little bit of a fan before, but now I am seriously impressed with that woman's skill. Her technique and choreo is challenging and she uses quite a few ballet terms and technique so there is a bit of a "ballet for bellydancers" component to it if you're paying attention. IMO her classical technique is fused flawlessly into her oriental dancing.
The only negative for me was that I felt like I needed more Saida specific training to get the most out of her choreos... even though she does break down the combos I found myself wishing I had a Saida basic technique dvd to go with.
But Saida is only a part of the highlights of these dvd's. You also have Mario who talks about music and rhythms, including breakdowns written on a board which he demonstrates and counts out for you. He talks about the origins and applications of certain musical forms and in Vol 1 Saida does movement demos to the different rhythms he explains.
Each volume comes with 2 dvd's so it's great value and just full of info.

Re: Saida & Mario Kirlis DVDs?
I ordered it two weeks ago, and a week later got an email that the DVD was no longer in stock and my money had been refunded. So I ordered it from another vendor, and now a week later, still no DVD and no email reply.

It sounds like it will be worth it if I can ever get it.

I have both DVDs and find them excellent in content and clarity of instruction. Saida is a multi-talented dancer and also an inspired teacher. Both mine have sub-titles (although I do understand Spanish which helps) and I bought them from an eBay store - musicshop780 MUSIC FROM ARGENTINA. They are well worth purchasing. Great value for money!
