Thread: Rania - Advance in the Dance dvd?

Has anyone bought or seen this one yet? I can't find anything that looks like a clip anywhere, or even find out what the music is. Any info is appreciated!

Have you sent her website an e-mail? They might answer these questions if it would help sell her video or at least tell you where you could see a clip.

No, I hadn't thought of that.... I thought I'd ask here first. But thanks for the advice, I'll do that is no-one pops up here.

You re welcome - I realize the producers often react to threads here. Maybe your curiosity in the product reminded them to put up the trailer ;)

I'm looking forward to reviews on this DVD. I think Rania gets a bad rap sometimes. She came here (Atl) for a workshop last year (while her mother was not doing well in the hospital) and she was just fab! She was a very generous and patient instructor, and everyone just loved her. She performed twice and both performances were spectacular. I’m glad she’s doing more professional dance type videos.

I love Hip Drop Hip Hop for a comfortable workout but Too Hip is the bomb for a harder workout. Would you believe I have this DVD at home and haven't used it yet because I'm savoring trying it for a day when I need a real treat? Of course, I'm not a total idiot - I've been too busy to fully devote my time to getting into it but as soon as I get a break, I'm gonna do it. And yes, she does get a bad rap, unfairly I might add.

I did the workout this weekend, and it is quite a workout. It's high intensity but low impact, just the way I like it. She has a section that shows you how each of the workout moves are executed so that you can fully understand it if you don't catch on during the regular workout. The workout is really fast but fun; before you know it, you've gone through it. It lasts about 40 minutes and I really loved it. It's even more intense than "Too Hip" and I would recommend any very advanced dancer to buy it as well because it will not be "too easy" for you but right up there with what you want.

I just got it from Netflix (too hip) today in fact and I liked it a lot. I ran the cardio part twice to get an aedequate fast workout.

I just wonder if I will get sick of it doing it two or 3 times a week. Maybe I need to increase my library. To those who have it, is it something you use quite regularly?

Hmm...just sold some of my DVDs off on Ebay...so now this is tempting me...just what is exactly on the disc? Anyone got any screenshots?

I know I'll be using it a lot. Also, I am now convinced to get Advance in the Dance as well (I've been veering off subject here!). As I progress in bellydance, it seems like Rania's videos increase in difficulty which meets my challenge so I know I will not be disappointed in Advance as well.

Got it and reviewed it just the other night. The DVD is actually teaching an entire choreography, e.g., veil entrance, taksim and drum solo parts. It's a LONG DVD, but I like it.

She does the entire choreography in costume at the end. I must be honest and say that Rania is not my favoriate performer. She's a good teacher, though, so IMHO the DVD is definitely a "buy."

Long? Amazon UK says its only 65mins (are they wrong?)....I would say that is short compared the the Tamallyn Dalal DVD which was only 9 cents more and double the length...

Definitely choreo. And not for beginners. She doesn't really break any moves down - it's assumed you know the basics. She runs through the steps, does it to music, then moves onto the next section.

I just ordered it this week and I'm glad. Sometimes I want one that just digs right in. Nothing against teaching newbies but she has videos for that. Ditto for her workout video, Hip Out. Just jumps right in. I think this weekend will be a Rania weekend for me.

I have the DVD and have even performed the first part of the choreography at shows (with Rania's e-mailed permission). The music to the first part of the choreo is Sharm el Sheik on Zamelek Musicians "Exotic Cairo" CD. HOWEVER, and this is a HUGE however, no one seems to be able to pinpoint the drum solo track. I've even e-mailed Rania herself. She directed me to Hollywood Music, the company that produced the DVD. Someone there told me the drum solo came from the CD "Essential Bellydance" from Veena & Neena and directed me to that page on their site. I purchased that CD, but the drum solo IS NOT ON IT. I've recently re-e-mailed both Rania and Hollywood Music to let them know this, but no one has answered yet. I'll let you know if they come up with something.

I think Rania gets a bad rap sometimes because of her early Natural Journeys videos. I'm a bit obsessed with bellydance dvds, and her NJ videos helped start that obsession, but even back then I wasn't that crazy about them. There was something a bit mechanical and affect-less about her back then, including the performances at the end.

However, I did recently get her new series (this is what addiction will do), and I've worked with Belly Abs. I was really pleasantly surprised! She seems much more natural in these. (I have a short review of Belly Abs up at atisheh: dance and fitness views and reviews: Review: Rania's Belly Abs) So I'm looking forward to her new material -- it's nice to see her out from under the Natural Journeys umbrella.
