Thread: Sonina- Bellydance the art of the drum solo: You mean you can't buy the music to it?

I just got Sonia's "Bellydance: The Art Of The Drum Solo" and can't find any sort of companion cd or download to it. Does anyone have this dvd or had any luck finding the accompanying drum solo?

I think you can find it on another CD by Issam Houshan, "Wassan Pharaoun" if I remember correctly !

Mine came with a music CD. Are you sure you didn't accidentally buy a bootleg?

One of the reviews on Netflix (Netflix Online Movie Rentals - Rent DVDs, Classic Films to DVD New Releases) says, "Amazon reviewers say that the drummer Issam Houshan's CD "Wassan Pharaon" contains a track similar to his solo on this DVD."

I have this DVD somewhere . . . and it came with a Bonus CD. I'll check and report back.

Mine also came with a CD. I don't think that the actual drum solo that she does the routine to is on there beat for beat but I do like the CD.

I did some more checking and the reviews for this dvd on Amazon said that while they liked the dvd and choreo, it was frustrating because they couldn't find the same music that they learned with.

She does a perfomance on the dvd (gorgeous!) but while it's with the moves she taught, they are in a totally different order and the drumming is also totally different.

I am not experienced enough to listen to Issam Houshan and try to put the right moves with the right beats.

I got my copy from Netflix to try first so natrually it wouldn't come with a companion cd. Anxious to hear back from anyone to know if the actual music is in existence. Thanks for checking

if you buy the dvd through amazon or the bellydance superstars website you definitely get a dvd plus music cd.
The problem: the EXACT same drum solo is not on the audio cd! a similar one though. I do not know WHY they did this.

I do not know what netflix is - is it a download or a normal dvd? if you got the normal dvd, open the video file on it and find out what file the performance sonia does is called.
Get a free software like Handbrake which allows you to rip all or certain chapters from the video file of your dvd. Choose only the performance file (I can check what it s called with my dvd if you need help), and then rip this to an .avi or .m4v file (the latter will play on your ipod).

like that, you can put the performance only on your ipod or computer and dance to it whenever you want. almost like a music file I d say. You could also check whether a video file can be converted to an mp3. there is f.e. "youtube to mp3" so you can google "how to make an mp3 from a video file"? I m sure you ll find programs, but I personally have not done this. Intend to try it soon though with youtube clips I cannot find as mp3 anywhere.

if netflix is a download, you can extract certain parts of it (f.e. the performance only) with windows media player I think. I ll have to ask someone how this works exactly, though, as I have not tried,
this is what the youtubers do if they put up 3 or 4 min videos!

I liked that the same one is not on the CD and that she mixes it up for the performance. She is teaching a choreo but that isn't really the reason for the DVD. It is more teaching you the different rhythms and combo's that you can use with them. Trust me, you want to learn drum solos as combos. I am facing my first improv with a live band and the drum solo is what is scaring me the most!

Ya same with me, I like strict choreographies not even for melodic songs, and much less for drum solos. takes away from the fun for both dancers and audiences IMO.
But for a beginner drum solo dvd I guess it would be a good idea to provide the exact same song for practice! still not a big problem, it s a great dvd and cd I think!

Netflix is an online movie rental compnay. They mail you the dvd's you request. The problem with recording only certain chapters is that she talks half way through them so you get that in the middle of the drum solo. I think I figured out a way to splice it though. Now I just have to buy the dvd and play around.

Yes, Linny, this is true and from that standpoint it's an excellent dvd. Not too overwhelming. (only 3-4 moves per different drum beat) But if I look at all those beats consecutively they all start running together! Yes, yes, time. I plan on buying it for this reason. If I learn these combos, then whenever I fire up a Hosam Ramzy solo I can just bump along to it I hope. Hopefully I will learn to recognize the beats. Some of them sound so similar.

I loved this video but I never found the EXACT music that she used. I think for the video it was shortened.

I would've liked it if she would've put it all together at the end instead of breaking it up into two parts though. Even when she performs at the end, it's not the same routine.

Oh, I wasn't meaning that it would be easy, I just meant that I wish that I had started out that way. Now I have trouble thinking on my feet and even with practice, I tend to start choreographing in my head as a default. There are times I can't even figure out what on earth they are playing and just stand like a deer in headlights!.w.:

The exact drum solo she dances to in the performance section isn't available on CD. Alot of his drum solo songs do follow similar patterns, though. I went crazy trying to figure that one out, too - lol!

I am having the same problem with teh new Zoe Jakes Drum solo DVD. Any one know if there is music avail for that?

I thought the song they used was The Art of the Drum Solo on the Wassan Pharaoun CD-The Pharaoh of Rhythm...I'd have to go listen to both at the same time to figure that out though.

Well you could export the video clip into wav and burn it onto CD-R if you really want the same drum solo.

Or use an audio recording program (one in Nero called Wave Editor or can use Audacity) to record the drum solo as the performance is playing
