Don't be fooled by the cover!!!!!!!!!

    hi all,

i just wanted to warn about a CD called "The world of bellydance Vol. 2". it was a present from my dad and i can say that im dissapointed, at the very least. there is nothing "bellydance" about the tracks...it is just full of repetitive, arythmic and totally non-danceable songs from places that are definately not directly linked to belly dance like Sri Lanka, Bali and China. OK, it only cost about 7 €, but keep your cash and spend it on something worth the money!

here is what it looks like, so you can avoid it: http://www.primasound.de/images/prod...ellydance2.jpg

Yes I've listened to that CD. I must agree. But you want to see a worse one? This one:

Don't let Jillina's smiling face fool you. If I recall correctly this CD was voted the worst bellydance album ever on a Bhuz thread once. It sounds like a screaming banshee. Which is probably why you can buy it for about $1.99

I can't tell you how many awful CD's I bought before I found sites that allow you to preview the tracks before you buy. I can sympathize with your experience.

Ah, yes, I was fooled by Jillina's smiling face on that one. I think I actually GAVE it away on bhuz....threw it in for free with something else I was selling!

I must admit, I'd be curious about that Usbekistanian (Usbek? Uzbek?) belly dance music!

Hmm daSage I am not positive on whether there is "Uzbek bellydance music". The Turk people's and Caucus ethnic music is very nice, and some movements the women do can remind Western observers of bellydance.. But Persian, Uzbek, Turkish, Kurdish etc ethnic dances have very little to do with bellydance except for the "universal" oriental movements like shoulder shimmies, hip shimmies, some other hip movements.. Many of these peoples might be offended if their folklore were termed "bellydance" by external observers.
Like especially Turkish and Kurdish audiences perceive "bellydance" as Arabic style stage dancing, and associate an even higher degree of eroticism with it than Arab audiences (which is also due to many contemporary Turkish dancers' style if you know them - they do bring a lot of deliberate eroticism in it).. their folkloric dances is something completely different in their eye..

There are many weird CDs on sale in Europe.
I own about three CDs full of ME classics but with totally fictitious names like "Mystical Scent", "Sultan`s Fountain" and such... Somebody has just remastered the music (cut out mawwal, used the main melody theme and composed some different beginning and end) and had fun finding new names. Not very funny

I didn't think there was, that's why I was particularly curious about it. The only Uzbek music/dance I've ever experienced didn't put me in mind of bellydance at all. I also thought the spelling was off, and that made me particularly doubtful about what kind of music was on the CD.

Note to self: next time use smilies for clarity!
