Thread: ISO: Performance DVD's

I have all the IAMED ones, and the By Dancers for Dancers. Any other recommendations for some good quality dvd's with very good dancers?


I've seen (on dancingrahana.com) dvd's for queen of raqs sharqi, but dunno about the quality of the recordings, anyone seen them? thoughts?

I like all variations of ME dance, so the more varieties the better.

Kina do you mean the Queen of Raqs Sharqi series by Little Egypt from the competition they organize each year in Dallas? I have the set from the first year's competition and show, and I've also seen the videos from the second year. If those are the ones you're referring to, they're not bad. The quality (clarity, sound etc.) is pretty good, surprisingly. In the set that I have, some of the competition performances were begginer/intermediate level. Others were professional. They're not my favorite videos ...but they're not bad either.

Thanks Priscilla, those are the ones I mean, I believe. I think Little Egypt is the only one that hosts THe Queen of RS, right?

Which are your favorites? $45 is quite a bit for a performance dvd that I don't love...

The Temptation of Bellydance DVD was amazing!!! One of the best DVDs out there.

ETA: Wait,crap, I did not read your entire post. You said a variety of dancers.... I suggest the On fire dvd. Tamra Henna has some amazing pieces there. Also, I loved Hala's Dance celebration dedicated to Raqia Hassan. It features Mohammed Shahin, Ahava, Tamra Henna, Meera and more. Lots of variety in that dvd.

I have the 2005 set, and a friend has the 2006 which I watched once. I liked the 2006 set better. That was the year the lovely Ahava won. I think Bahaia is on those too, which is always a treat, and I remember seeing a really cool performance by Tamalyn Dallal where she danced with a jug of some kind on her head. There are several bhuzzers on these videos...so that was fun too.
I think (if I remember correctly) that the second year of the competition Little Egypt had stricter rules and the participants had to have a minimum of four years of dancing, so I felt that the dancers were more polished.
They´re not bad for $45 dollars but unfortunately the competition and the shows are sold separately so you´d have to decide which ones you prefer.
I second the suggestion of the ON FIRE Dvd as well. I have that DVD and really like it.
