    Modern Orientale Ranya Renee

    hey guys,

this time I cannot give my review on the dvd yet - it has arrived this morning and I have been able to look at it for 10 min or so.
For those dying for information like I was until this morning - this is Mala's great review on her blog:

Modern Oriental with Ranya Renee • ::more than somewhat::

(If you cannot access the site, it might be Internet Explorer's fault. I am running Firefox for a long time now as a second browser - it does not take away speed at all, it s an excellent browser, and some sites work on one of them only. so if you ever had problems accessing sites - get Firefox, it s free software anyway!)

    From what I looked at:
the dvd has an introduction, sections on posture, then 2 choreography sections. one beginner, one intermediate, advanced.
It s essentially the same song Layalina ("our nights"), beautiful song. the beginner version is shorter I think. She has beautiful egyptian movements, and as a somewhat advanced beginner I can imagine doing them!
first ever I see Egyptian style movements simplyfied for the not so advanced.
I am VERY pleased with how this choreography looks!!

The intermediate is more difficult,a nd looks stunning. I cant wait for Ranyas classic oriental, because while I really like Modern Egyptian style, my love belongs to the classic style. I m sure her Classic one will be amazing.

After each choreography seciton, you can find Modern Egyptian drills. I am guessing one beginner, one intermediate level, but have not looked at them. Nor at the performances by Ranya - I m sure they are amazing!!!

So much to write about 10 min of material seen :)))))

thanks for posting the review and the tip about the website (I couldn't open it last time because I use IE at work.)

I cannot wait until tomorrow! But I'm still working on baladi. However, Yousry will be here this weekend so I should probably try out some of her Modern Oriental DVD to prep.

    UPDATE:
Starting to work with it - I discovered a real treasure I'd somewhat not given enough appreciation to in my preview!

So as said the choreography is set to Layalina, from Wash ya Wash, the intermediate choreography is long and set to the regular song, the beginner one to the outro that is also on the Wash ya Wash cd, taking melodic parts of the Layalina song ("Finale by Mohammed Ali").
    VERY pretty song.

The beginner choreography is about 2 min long, incorporating most elements that make the dance very cute, yet after some classes or a beginner dvd one can actually do it. Given the simplicity of movement it is amazing how cool and sassy Ranya's choreo is! It is great fun dancing it, not too hard, not too easy, and there will be tons to work up to in style and attitude and technique (getting the movements to be as luscious and easy looking as Ranya!).

Now what I LOVE and had overlooked:
there are practice drills of the choreography movements. Set to beautiful (different) music, Ranya lets your repeat the moves in variations that are set to 4 or 8 counts in the choreography for longer sections and repetitions. That is a great part to follow along dancing with her!
I LOVE the movement flows on this year's WDNY dvds, they really get you dancing!
    Lovely lovely dvd.
