I rented this from Netflix and was surprised. It's basic instruction, but the way it's done is quite interesting -- lots of close-ups of the body part with encouragement for you to "follow the visual picture on the screen."

Although it's subtitled "Introducing the Tray" there doesn't seem to be any actual instruction on dancing with a tray. ???

Also, it's obvious she is a trained dancer, and apparently she's accomplished in Central Asian dance as well. But her performances were so odd -- nothing she was doing fit the music AT ALL. I wondered if this was dubbed with different music?

Does anyone know anything about her?

I own the instructional too, - liked the trailer quite a bit, where you see her with teen students. Also what she did there looked kind of folkloric.

When I purchased it I was pretty shocked with the performances in some sort of "temple" and in the nature. are you talking about these?

Well her teaching looks really good in the trailer, I ve had in mind trying it for a while now!

I haven't seen her videos, but I have taken her Persian dance classes live and she is a fantastic teacher!

Maybe the video production was just bad. All of the choreographies I have learned from her in person were spot on with the music.

I used to dance with her years ago. She's a wonderful dancer, so I couldn't say why her performances wouldn't fit the music. The troupe we were in stressed musicality, we all had to sing the songs and play the music ourselves. She's especially versed in Gypsy Roma dance. I'm going rent this to check it out.

Oh it looks like these are 2 separate DVDs, one is Belly Dance for Teens and one is Stylistics (the tray level 2).

This is what I she was really know for in our troupe (when I was there). And that is Ling Shien of Helm playing for her.

well that clip does not look bad.. it would be necessary to see some faster parts though how good her Turkish Romany is :) (and I m not the biggest expert on this style anyway.. just seen itquite a few times on Turkish TV by the Romani people, festivals etc and Didem of course).

The clips on the Teen dvd feature her doing more classical Arab oriental, she is filmed in cheesy locations (outdoors - temples, water etc), and really her movements do not fit the music.. I also thought different music might have been recorded in later. Or, like Didem, she just does not know how to dance to Arab classical music.. if she s good in folklore especially of non Arab oriental peoples like someone said Central Asian folklore is her expertise? Uzbek? Turkmen? that of course is like comparing Greek dancers to Egyptians..
