I'm considering getting this album:

Shems, I have this cd and I'm listing it for sale this afternoon for $15 if you want first dibs? Its only been played once (to upload it to my ipod). Its one of my all time favourites, I can give you more info later.

I reviewed Aheb Masr on Gilded Serpent . . . as you can tell, I quite liked it Catherine reviews Yasmina's CD for the Gilded Serpent

I'd be interested in the DVDs myself . . . particularly Mona . . . as there isn't much available of Mona. Love Randa too.

Ok, I see Dahlal gives a full track listing. I can only add that the Aheb Masr opening is juicy - my favourite entrance piece. The album is worth it for the versions of Ala Hizboadad and Agibni Kulak alone:)

You are right about those . . . Agibni Kulak is one of my all time favorites . . . performed for Fifi Abdo last April in Dallas . . . I think she liked the music at least ..l;,

aheb masr is one of my faves, at the moment!

my favorites, right now are ala hisboadad & ala rimsh ayounha, but also really liking agibni koulak (did haifa wahab dance to that at bduc?) and toul Omri. aaaaaaaannnd, ironically, the classical baladi song was featured in a dream I had last night where I was all stressed out because I was trying to find it in my playlist & I was trying to describe the song to someone in hopes that they had a copy...lol!

I am thinking of a choreography to the Nubian tracks . . . must get cracking on this!!!!

I love the album. It is really growing on me over time too.

Helene, the producer of the Oslo Oriental Dance Festival and owner of Studio Orient, is a colleague and a personal friend of mine. Her work is always of good quality. I have both the Randa and Mona DVDs from the festival (I am actually also on the Mona DVD).

If you are looking to see Randa and Mona dance - you will definitely get a handful in both DVDs. If you are looking to be entertained - well, you will be. Randa had a bit of miscommunication with the band - so there are some parts where she gets "off", but it's very short - AND it shows you how a pro handles the situation (educational value). Mona, well, she just kicked entertainment value up to a totally different notch with her show.

I think both DVDs are worth it for both entertainment AND educational standpoints.

I have the Randa DVD and it is the best of all that have been produced ever since. Filming is very well done, actually better than in many others. From that, you can also see her style developing into what it is today. And I remember also the difficulties with the band but as David says it gives you an example how to treat this kind of situations. I recommend it very warmely.
