Does anyone have a review or commentary on the following items by Phaedra of Boston:

if you go on Middle-Eastern Dance in New England - Home, which is the Middle Eastern Dance site, and download their current issue of May/June there is review of Glory of the Glute and Turning your Hips around.

I have the Phaedra's Finishing School one. I think it is really good. This is geared towards people who are performing and it gives you a lot of things such as floor patterns, how important posture is and etc. There are photos and short video clips for example. included in the cd as well.

I just received the e-book in the mail yesterday and haven't had a chance to go thru the whole thing yet. But it looks good from what I've seen. She offers do's and don't to polish your technique and has video files and pictures to help illustrate her points. Very good points are listed - energy, breath, arms. I'll post more later...

I haven't seen it, but from what I recall Phaedra was at one point a professional writer. So I imagine it would be very clear and well organized. Phaedra worked EVERYWHERE in town too, was the darling of the arabic clubs so she has a wealth of experience to draw from.

She was one of the first dancers in my career I met who really wasn't ashamed to take her work and her professionalism seriously - in the sense that she really strove to put herself across as a responsible, on-time, and cordial working artist who expected to be recompensed for her efforts.

So her shows were always fun to watch, yes! but there was always the sense that there was a hardworking professional up there on the stage, not just a pretty girl bumbling about. I'd imagine anything she puts her name on would also be of high quality.

A couple of friends of mine just did her Finishing School workshop, which I believe was a two-day thing, and came back raving about their experience.

I read the article. Looks really good, thanks for posting the link. I'm putting these DVDs on my list.
