She's wearing the blue costume from the Complete Bellydance cover many of us admired soooo much :)

It's a bit short as usual. when will they make better promos. what does she cover what level etc would have been nice

Yes, the trailer is not useful at all unless you know you want the dvd anyway (like I do).
She said it is similar to Thrillin Drillin, drills and exercises start at a level doable for beginners and progress through intermediate to advanced level.
What the movement types she covers, and how it differs/compares to Thrillin Drillin - sigh! no idea. :)

well I have bought a lot lately and I will wait for the Buz and OD reviews. Should I have Thrillin Drillin?

to be honest if you don't have it - Sadie said it s similar in style, but different in concrete exercises with this new Ultimate Bellydance. So price-wise you might want to go for this new one first, at almost half the cost.. and Complete Bellydance from Hollywood Music was 2 hours long.. so excellent value for money! Oceanstatemedia offers free shipping under certain conditions, internationally.

urgh....drool...yeah they need to make longer trailers...like 5 mins...really can't tell how good a dvd is by short trailors.

Yes you should order thrillin drillin it is very useful.
The clip is so short that if I did not have other wonderful Sadie dvd's I would not have bought it. I am assured of her instruction as an instructor but if she is going over moves that can be found on her other dvd's I think it would be unfair to not show that. But I ordered the dvd on a leap of faith and after much thought but since I got complete bellydance guide and the drum solo she released this year I might as well go ahead and finish the package.
These DVD;S are quite pricey and a longer demo would def seal the deal as to whether I want the dvd or not.

Oh I'm so glad to hear that it's similar to Thrillin Drillin, my all-time favorite BD instructional dvd! I should get my copy any day now and then I'll check back with you guys.

I agree that it's frustrating they don't show longer clips. I have no idea what this dvd is about by that tiny little clip. However, since it's Sadie it's pretty much a given. :O)

wow i really don't enjoy her bellydancing but her technique is so good
and that travelling shimmy she was doing at the end was delicious

I also don't enjoy her dance as bellydance.. it is technically excellent, she can do freakin stuff.. but something is lost in translation for me, what I see is somewhat not in touch with the music..

On Mala's blog, interview section you can read what she said on this upcoming drills dvd.

That amazon reviewer says there is close to 100% overlap with other dvds.. I ordered mine already, but maybe you guys want to wait until more people who've worked with Thrillin Drillin have it and give you information on what is overlap and what isn't!

OK, I went through the video. This is a good practice video and definitely worth the money. It assumes a basic knowledge of the movement vocabulary, so certainly not meant to be a first video.

As I went through it, I tried to notice which material was covered in other Sadie videos. I guess I'd say that all the basic technique and movements are covered in at least one other Sadie video, but I think a few of the layering drills were different. I'd also say that the drills weren't quite as extensive as those in Thrillin' Drillin', so if you get Ultimate Bellydance and enjoy it and want some more challenges, I would recommend Thrillin' Drillin' also.

One strength of this DVD was that it packed a lot of practice into the video time because there wasn't a lot of time spent on lengthy explanations and demonstrations like there is in the IAMED DVDs or most beginner videos. I think the best part is that there is a little bit of everything. There are some sharp locks for the upper and lower body similar to the technique taught in the Pops, Locks & Shimmies video and then technique and drills with mayas and undulations similar to the material in Sadie's taqsim video. There are layering drills and then finally a short choreography instruction part which includes the Sadie stylings found in her other drum solo choreographies. So, yes, if you had all Sadie's other videos and went through them all, you'd probably hit most of the content of this new DVD in one way or another, but who ever has 8 hours to practice the content of every Sadie video end to end? I like that this DVD is sort of the under 2 hours cliffnotes version of Sadie technique and style and a good practice session.

I think Sadie literally said the "drills were different".

Ok, now I watched the entire thing and I will briefly say what is covered:

The warm up is a nice continuation of her Complete BD warmup. There she had you standing in demi plié and do chest circles. With this one, she does the same thing but you move deeper towards the floor and almost fully up. I will have to work hard with this, as I have some issues even with Sandra's standing up and down movements with chest circles.
There are some VERY advanced stretches. she shows you how to work towards a full split. I have never attempted anything like this, who knows maybe someday I'll dare :)

Her layering starts with shimmies. She demonstrates them shortly and nicely, a nice continuation again from Complete BD. The first layering drills are much more basic than the stuff on Thrillin Drilin from what I remember. This will be very nice for me to try. It is basic shimmies with upper body slides and such things.
I would say the drills stay pretty advanced beginner level until about one hour of the dvd is over - so I think it really is picking up from the level where Complete BD has left you.
Overall, the level seems to be below Thrillin Drillin, which is good for me.
The drills she does after the shimmy drills are mostly hip up and down with chest movements (horizontal and vertical circles, and "rollercoaster" => you make the shape of a rollercoaster ride with your chest :) ), then you "graduate" to three quarter shimmies up and down to these chest movements. That is at about 1:10 or something, and impossible for me as I cannot do the 3/4 shimmy yet.

What I like particularly are her "soft" layers: she has you do hip cirlces with upper body isolations, and also some stuff with mayas. These might be good for me because I am better with flowing movements than with fast or percussive ones.

The choreography is very short again, set to drum music and incorporating layers. It looks nice, and the length of the dvd is so great (close to 2 hours) that I really cannot complain about the length of the choreo :) it is a nice practice of what you learned I believe.
One caveat: They never present one run through of the choreography with music only. At the end for practice, and also to see what you are getting into. it was difficult for me when previewing the dvd to see the full choreography!
I think adding one run through with music only and adding this as a menu point would not have cost that much.. it would be of great value for people working with the dvd though.
I ended up forwarding and rewinding a lot to find the final run through where Sadie has you practice the entire choreography, and talks to it. Still, it is GREAT they included those mini choreographies on both complete bellydance and ultimate bellydance!

Sadie does a wonderful performance in that blue costume so many of us admired on the Complete BD cover. Nice performance overall, to "Soul of Cairo" music again.

As Zamira mentioned - this is a 100% practice dvd. She talks or demonstrates little without you following her. I am very glad I bought it - great layering drills IMO and they will keep me SO busy for a long time once I graduate from Complete BD (which is great, too, one of my favorites for the basics).

I forgot: she is demonstrating a key movement of hers.
3/4 shimmies layered on up or down figure 8s. I don't know if she teaches that on any of her other videos?

One more thought :)
The entire instructional part is close to one and a half hours, the choreography instruction is 15 to 20 min, the entire choreography is little more than 1 min long.
But very much Sadie style - it reminds me a lot of part of a drum solo she did on an IAMED performance video. Probably the leo print one? But I am not sure.
