    Favourite Tabla instruction DVD's

    Hello!
I need some advice and review on Tabla Instruction / Rhythm DVDs. Can you describe or advise something?
    Thanks!

For beginner I think Amr Naoum's DVDs are really great. He breaks everything down very simply, has a clear presentation style and the rhythms are written on screen as you play along. It's also very well priced and production is very good.

Then once you have that Karim Nagi's DVDs are fabulous. He teaches differently than Amr and opens your mind to other ways of thinking about the rhythms. Again, production is excellent.

Of course, both are best used in conjunction with regular classes if possible.

Did you want to actually drum or just identify rhythms?

Uncle Malfufo probably has the best drumming technique information although I have to say all the ones I've owned, about 5 plus, have never really explained technique properly.

    Uncle Mafufo DVD

In regards to learn rhythms the Uncle Mafufo one is ok although some of the rhythms aren't Arabic. Amir's DVD is all Arabic rhythms that a dancer in Arabic style will need to know.

You may also find Raquy's DVD, CD and Book good value for money.

I wanted to actually drum. It's not for me, but for a friend of mine, who is a professional musician, but never played tabla...
