Hard Candy--WDNY?
I noticed a dvd available for pre-order on Amazon called Hard Candy--A Bellydance workout with Neon, Sarah Skinner, and Elisheva. Is this the advanced-level follow-up to Luscious and Love Potion?

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
No it's not yet on the WDNY page. One must say the upcoming projects have not been updated over the summer I think.
I had heard about the upcoming 3rd volume being called Hard Candy from a very trustworthy source before though, and the news that instead of Blanca Elisheva would join Sarah and Neon.
Just today a friend said it were to focus more on the upper body this time, which I would love.
I do hope they continue the format sometime, it is so lovely.

Yes, an upper-body focused workout sounds great! I'm anxious for the release of Hard Candy, though honestly this summer I've been so busy with things other than dance that I've barely scratched the surface of the Love Potion dvd!

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
ya I haven't worked close enough with Luscious to tackle Love Potion. But these are workouts I love to WATCH with music only. it is almost like a performance from the beautiful visuals, lovely soothing music,...
I love them :)

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
Now it would be great if they did a bellydance drill/conditioning series. Something like a bellydancer's week practice companion.

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
You mean different body parts, different drill exercises - plus a movement flow?
I'd second that. With the movement flow, that's my favorite of the WDNY releases :-D
So like a hip accent, shimmy, flowing movements, upper body movements series? That would indeed be great. Maybe with several WDNY dancers secret drilling/training program they use themselves (if they want to let go of it :) ).

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
Ya - but I think the Tribal girls have great great offers there already. What I'd like is more generic or traditionally Cabaret/Orientale oriented movement flows.
Say - various dancers, tribal and cabaret, would present their drills for upper body, for the shimmying motions, for the flowing movements, for the hip accents. Then I'd love to have something like Jenna's practice sesson of 20 min on her Basics and Beyond gorgeous originally oriental music, and movement flows incorporating the moves, also with musical interpretation.
Basically what Ranya has done for baladi, and what is on the latest Tribal ones by Fazyah and Elisheva, and on the Luscious, Love Potion, Candy series.
Just more of it :) And I'd personally love it to the more classical type of music like Jenna did it. And that EXTENDED, long and many movement flows :)

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
Actually I'd love simply what they've been putting out already, just more and more classically oriental style. :) Or more generic.

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
That's what I meant. It seems like the best WDNY drill dvds are tribal. I would like something Egyptian or Oriental based. I like the music & the outfits better too.
In regards to Jenna, I wouldn't exactly want movement flows based on her choices. I briefly viewed her second beginner and it seems she didn't have a logical numerical count to her drills when there was a change from one movement to another. For example, in love potion, you can feel how many more sets you have of a move or combination. I'm going off memory here...Last edited by dancerose; 09-12-2009 at 07:17 AM.

Yes, wouldn't it be cool to pick up one dvd or two-pack set and have a selection of drills & conditioning to choose from for your weeks bellydance work.

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
I like the idea of having several different workouts to use. I get bored with just one. Or some way to select the portions you wanted to work with that particular day without having to be dancing with the remote in hand.

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
Hi, everybody!
Thank you (Hannahi) for ‘discovering’ HARD CANDY! Not yet shown on our website, but yes, it is indeed the ‘next chapter’ of our ‘Bellydance Workout’ series, following on the successes of “LUSCIOUS” and “LOVE POTION.”
“HARD CANDY” is mostly intermediate in its level, but, even more important, it is different in its aesthetics.
The movements and the music in HARD CANDY have a touch of fusion in them, and with a bit of a "hard edge." I have licensed the music from artists such as Nomadiqa and Shiva in Exile for this DVD.
The vocabulary is more percussive and grounded, less ethereal and flowing than in Love Potion.
Hard Candy will feature a lot of torso and hip isolations, and various percussive travel steps assembled into combinations.
Neon says that the difference in level is less than the difference in vocabulary. She wants HARD CANDY to feel different and new, to practice areas of the dance vocabulary differently from the ones that get the workout in LUSCIOUS and LOVE POTION.
We are actually filming HARD CANDY this weekend! This time Neon will be joined by Sarah Skinner, and by Elisheva. Blanca was too busy with other things to participate in all the rehearsals for this one — but she will be at the filming just to stomp and cheer - and exercise quality control!
Elisheva brings something new to the World Dance New York ‘Bellydance Workout’ series. You can see and feel the presence of Elisheva in the style of the HARD CANDY workout. A number of sections were choreographed specifically to fit Elisheva's dance style. It has that hard, percussive edge that comes from tribal fusion, but in the context of HARD CANDY it is inscribed into more traditional bellydance.
Hard Candy will be released in January - !
NEXT:
To answer those who are angling for more from World Dance New York along the lines of the classical bellydance movement vocabulary in practice and workout DVDs: MESSAGE RECEIVED!
AND: Good news! - we are ON IT!
We have two spectacular products of this nature coming your way in 2010:
#1: A traditional bellydance movement workout (no title yet); format similar to the LUSCIOUS/LOVE POTION/HARD CANDY series. Choreography by Tanna Valentine...dancers: Tanna Valentine, Yoshina, and Mimi Fontana of New York City. And....
#2: The Bellydance SHIMMY WORKOUT: An all-shimmy practice program / workout, choreographed by Sarah Skinner.

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
I'm definitely buying the two workout dvds!!!
If you ever consider doing the two-pack drill set for us, please look into chapter selection. Many workout dvds on the market offer an option in which you can select the chapters you want for your workout and your chapters will play in the exact order you selected them. This would be a nice option for a two-pack drill set.
P.S. I hope the new workout dvds scheduled will be as easy to follow as Luscious and Love Potion. You can pretty much tell you need to do 8 counts ect. more of a move before a transition to another. Some earlier WDNY workouts or flows seemed to need a little more memorization of the routine.Last edited by dancerose; 09-22-2009 at 08:25 AM.

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
absolutely! such a programmable if possible comprehensive and varied drill practice package would kick a** :)
And would be popular amongst bellydance students of all styles, and also live class students in between classes btw.
it would actually be a dream come true, like many WDNY programs :))

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
That was my biggest complaint about the Temple of Jehan Ultimate Bellydance Fitness Workout DVD... I had a really hard time following and keeping up with it. I actually injured myself the first time I tried working out with the DVD; I was so frantically trying to follow the steps that I sacrificed technique. My back was sore for a few days afterward (sore in the "bad--I hurt myself" way, not in the "good--I got a great workout" way).
Thanks to the glowing reviews on this thread, I recently bought "Luscious" from Amazon and look forward to the opportunity to try it out! I love Neon so much... her voice is so great, I could listen to her talk for hours!
I received the DVD on Saturday and am saddened to see that the paint job on the DVD I received is all wonky... all the layers of the colors of ink aren't lined up, so the photo is blurry and there are "ghost images" of the dancers printed on top of their faces and stuff. ..cr.:

Contact them and see if WDNY will replace it. I've heard they have good customer service. Give it a try. What do you have to lose. I think the workout is wonderful! It would be a shame if you weren't happy with your purchase.

Re: Hard Candy--WDNY?
You are right--WDNY has excellent customer service! Can't say enough good things about them. I have many of their DVDs and will keep coming back for more.
I popped in the "Luscious" workout and it is fantastic! The voiceover cues and on screen illustrations make it so easy to follow along with the dancers. There are enough repetitions so that you have enough time to get the hang of it, but not so many that you get bored or tired from doing the same thing over and over. I really like the music, too. Based on this, I am really looking forward to getting "Hard Candy" when it comes out!
