New Elisheva dvd?
I've just noticed "Bellydance Bootcamp with Elisheva" on Amazon.com...no info other than it's to be released next year, and it popped up in a World Dance New York search.
Anybody (Scott? Please???) know anything else?
Didn't Fahtiem have a "Bellydance Bootcamp" thing?
I'm curious... and come on Dinavienna, you're Queen of the Pre-Release Rummagers, find out stuff for us!

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
I have Fahtiem's two bootcamp ones.. have not been able to work with them to be honest. The picture was blurry, and I've come to realize I am happiest with WDNY and Cheeky Girls releases.. so I will focus on getting them where I know the format does good for what I like.
Might get back to other dancers' freelance releases some day, but not for now.

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
I'm a little scared of Fahtiem...so haven't seen either of hers, yep I like WDNY and Cheeky Girls best as well...probably a bit too much for my own good, but ho hum!
Would love to see what your contacts have to say re the Elisheva dvd though- it looks (from Amazon) as if it'll be WDNY!

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
I had Fahtiem's II and sold it. It felt beginner-ish to me, something more appropriate as a light intro to bellydance. I think Neon or Michelle has a better grasp of what is expected when a "bootcamp" dvd is advertised. There is usually room to grow with either of their releases.

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
Another dancer had an arms bootcamp out and I didn't think that was very "bootcamp-ish" either. I think I heard her workshops were popular... I think some dancers may do bootcamp workshops that are challenging, but are afraid for some reason to put that on dvd. Maybe, they don't want to intimidate their audience or feel more personal instruction is required.
Regardless, it would be great to get real "bootcamp" bellydance dvds--from anyone!

I would be really nice if World Dance New York went back to posting new releases on their website...and updates on delays...

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
Ok girl, after that flattering title I had to step up the game.
Here's what my sources had to say:
As you can see on the WDNY site a new 2-dvd set by Anasma on hip hop/bellydance fusion is in the making. The cover is gorgeous, and she's working with a male partner this time, Future.
Her costume is so gorgeous I am confident it will be a PLEASURE to get it just for watching (I have not worked with her other dvds, silly me! not that gifted in hip hop .w.:)
Hard Candy obviously is the other first release of 2010. The music is edgy and modern, and some focus will be on upper body moves.
Then there's Sera's non stop dance format for beginners in tribal style coming out in February. I imagine this to be kind of like Luscious etc for tribal gals. Very interesting, especially since I want to start working with tribal drills on her first dvd East Coast Tribal soon. I'm getting more and more curious for that tribal stuff for building strength and precision.
AND: that will not be all by Sera. In the spring months there will be two other dvds by her. One on FLUID moves, one on PERCUSSIVE ones.

Titles not yet decided (so brand new this info
)
Then the one I am DYING for Ranya's classical oriental: Spring. (BHUZ I NEED A CAT SMILEY THAT IS SCRATCHING A DOOR! come on!!)
And, yes, for summer 2010 2 new tribal dvds by ELISHEVA and FAYZAH.
So that's all I could find out for the moment ,r:;

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
Can I just say Fahtiem is a legend, her dancing is engaging and her isolations are incomparable. She performs traditional style dance, no bonus extra dance forms or fusions.
Yes her DVD's are a little on the low production side, but they were made awhile ago and she did not have the big powerhouse production companies behind her. Her beautiful hands and arms dvd is much better produced. What I wonder is similar to MJ "pop lock and shimmies" debacle why when I google Fahtiem's dvd's is the first page or results full of free torrents downloads [ame="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=bootcamp+fahtiem&aq=f&oq= &aqi="]http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=bootcamp+fahtiem&aq=f&oq= &aqi=[/ame]

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
Oh, I agree on Fahtiem's dancing. Truth in everything you said. I also have no problem with how all of her dvds (old & bootcamp) were produced. No fancy WDNY computer generated back drops, but who cares if the content is truly "bootcamp." I just felt that bootcamp II was beginner-ish. Nothing wrong with that, but another title would have suited it better.

Don't get me wrong, I like Elisheva, I took a few classes from her a couple of months ago. I just don't like when people compare the powerhouse production companies to indepent DVD's the quality might not be the same but the contect may be better.

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
I can only say content wise it did not do much for me, blurry picture aside.
if someone said on here from their experience what it did for them I'd be the first to get those dvds off my shelf in curiosity.
I would get the other 2 volumes most likely if they are released though - I love having much material by one dancer, just in case their style clicks with me and my practice needs one day.
As for the comparison:
I have to compare it with the companies that do "it" for me. And Neon and Michelle founded their own companies - so I would definitely count them in with the "self-made" dancers.
I love Fahtiem's hands dvd.
As for traditional - that depends on what is traditional for you. I give her credit for her technique and own style, but it is not what I understand from traditional judging from the IAMED performances I've seen. I picture American cabaret style dancers will fancy her a lot - I'm not such a big fan of the American style though.

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
I would say she is a mix of american style and lebanese (she did stude with Bobby Farrah)
As for not liking american style, I have seen you speak highly of many of the dancers in Neon's DVDs most of whom are American style (Blanca, Jenna, Neon, Autumn Ward, Sarah Skinner and Tanna Valentine.) What makes one American style dancer speak more to you then another?

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
I am not a huge fan of the performance style altogether - when comparing it to what I consider traditional style.
I still like watching it - also because there is a limited supply of new "traditional" bellydance available (much of what happens on Lebanese and Turkish tv, or almost all, is less traditional than American style).
Same with the BDSS: I'm not a huge fan when traditional style comes to my mind. But when I see a little trailer of a new performance dvd I will surely get it. Simply for curiosity because I do enjoy to watch it in certain doses for its own sake, and, as I said, there is so little of the style I personally prefer to watch available that I could never satisfy my appetite without the Am style.
Same with IAMED performance dvds, or with the Golden Apple performance dvd by WDNY: They're not 100% my taste. Many performances on there I don't particularly fancy for what I see as "too American" for myself.
As for the dvds I've praised: All of them are instructionals I feel I learn a great deal from. I have said that I am not a big fan of Jenna's musical interpretation, agreeing with another bhuzzer, for example. I have said Autumn Ward's style is very ballet or modern dance influenced, but I feel I can learn from it on these disciplines I've never learned as a kid.
So a lot of the things I don't fancy all that muhc is present in the American dancers you named, too.
When taking up the traditional theme, I got it you were referring to Fahtiem as a traditional style performer, and I was commenting on that thought with the "traditional yes or no" replique.
The dancers you name I've praised for instructionals I believe.
Still, one American style dancer may speak to me more than another one. I love Sandra even though she is very American cabaret to me. I love Blanca and Sarah Skinner A LOT in many of their performances, more than most dancers on the IAMED ones. Speaking IAMED I love Aziza and Ava Fleming, and sometimes Sadie. But not many of the others on the IAMED performance dvds.
I love Autumn Ward's performance for their theatrical quality. Very far from traditional bellydance, but beautiful.
Let's say I guess "traditional" or "native" dancers appeal to me in the majority of cases, American style dancers in the minority of cases.
I can't really tell what it is that makes some nicer to me, and some not so enjoyable. But I guess that s the case with music and dance much of the time for most human beings.

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
Fahtiem's bootcamp blurry? Hmm, I don't recall that and my cheapo dvd player was hooked up to a 25 year-old tv! It was simply a content issue for me. I like dvds that are over my present ability, but within my grasp to some extent.

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
Dina, in the Hard Candy thread, a Tanna workout and a shimmy workout was scheduled for the beginning of next year. Have they been pushed back? I need to lose weight, lol!!!
Is there a reason they aren't posting updates?

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
I guess only too much work :)
The Tanna and shimmy workout I heard nothing about.. sorry :)
And yes - Fahtiem's bootcamp visuals were VERY blurry on my notebook. It's a small screen, additionally, so it really should not be I guess. Maybe I got a bad copy. I could have gotten over the picture quality at any time had I found the content challenging. But I guess I need to run through the dvds sometime to see if I missed out on something just watching it.

Re: New Elisheva dvd?
Thanks for starting this cute thread, Avradoorn, and yes Dancerose you have correctly guessed that the only reason we have not been updating the 'future releases' page on the websites as regularly as we should is because we are so busy - ! ..g.:..g.: that's a good thing -- especially for you - !
Dina: Where do you get all your insider information? It's amazing! I have to read Dina's posts just to find out what's going on in my own company - !!

No, I didn't realize she had something like that going on. Off to check! There are a few comments my Mala attached to her review. Is that what you are talking about?

Yeah, I looked in a couple of places. She has a fitness section, but couldn't figure out where she put it.

Yeah, I'm interested in how it worked as a "workout." I'm leaning toward dancey workouts to liven up and encourage my fitness goals.
