Thread: Nanna Candelaria drum solo dvd!

Hi everybody,

As I returned from travels I found this dvd in my mailbox.

The cover is GORGEOUS. My favorite colour green, and it suits Nanna excitingly well. Very nice dvd artwork.
Am watching it excitedly at this point. I have not seen anyone say a thing on it so far - so I must say I am surprised in what this dvd covers, so I am giving you a few thougths as I am watching it.
It teaches a VERY cute drum solo dvd, with unusual moves. Nice to watch. I fear it is more difficult than what it looks like though ,r:;
The warmup should be about 15 min long, I have not watched it yet.
She talks about "stretches" in the beginning though.

Now what I got all excited about is her Technique section. There are two actually, one for the hips, one more focused on the chest:
She first teaches shimmies, and does a shimmy drill.
Then she teaches a "double shimmy" I am not sure I have ever seen but certainly never seen explained. Plus a double shimmy drill.
She also teaches her variaton of the "Egyptian walk" and those nice Suhair Zaki style vertical hip down movements. Very elegant.
Technique section 1 is around 20 min long.
The chest section comprises chest pops, roll up and chest pop (she uses this a lot in her dance), plus a couple of interesting travelling moves (she calls it rocking step - she uses that one a lot, too) mostly on relevé. She also shows omis, and the finale step of her choreography which is small very fast running steps.
The technique section stops around the running time of one hour; she then goes on with her choreography.

I like her style a lot - kind of relaxed and beautiful for the drum solo, if that makes sense. Other dancers are often very frantic to the point their drum solos look kind of stressful. Nanna stays calmer even for fast drum rhythms, and I find this style very appealing.

Be aware I have not properly watched the dvd - but not having heard anything about it and it covering such interesting steps IMO I thought I'd tell you guys right now.

No, it is not a Cheeky Girls production, but a freelance production by Michelle Joyce for Nanna.
You can find it on amazon or Nanna's website I think (got it from amazon).

Does she says which music she is using for the choreo? I hate buying choreo dvd's and then notice the teacher never says which music she is using.. :( thanks!

Oh I got so tired of amazon.com years ago. Shippings regularly took 6 weeks to Europe (how do they transport the stuff?! on dolphins' backs?!)

I had it sent to a friend in the US (1 or 2 days of delivery time), and she sent it to me (about 10 days). :)

If you can order from oceanstatemedia or WDNY for their own dvds - I had my dvds within a week! Filmbaby may be quicker, too, I have not tried, but for me amazon com is the slowest ever!

Thank you for the suggestions of other vendors to order from. For Nanna's drum solo DVD I ended up cancelling my Amazon order & ordering directly via Nanna's website. My order via her site shipped the next day. Now that's great service. To heck with Amazon..phooey!

Did anyone had a chance to look for music credits yet? :) :) It seems like a really nice choreo!
