Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
Does anyone wish to comment of this dvd? It's twice the length of Aziza's new dvd and it's been out for a while and it has received very little comment. How does it compare to Aziza's? Can anyone give us an idea if it is talky or more a doing dvd? Any things not covered by IAMED?

What...no one...? Goodness, I guess her dvds aren't really very popular.

I've got it! Haven't really worked with it much (Christmas sort of happened to me...) but it seems very good and anything by Farhana is usually entertaining!
I'll have a proper look at it some time this week- I haven't got Aziza's to compare, but I'll tell you what I can :)

Re: Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
I have both Aziza's and Farhana's. Farhana's at first glance (I so regret not having more time to look at my dvd purchases from SEPTEMBER at this point ;((( ) looks like it really is focused more on arms and hands. I saw she also includes some folkloric hand and arm moves.
Aziza's has some kind of "movement drills" I believe two 10 min long "flows" to get your hands and arms more elegant and flowing. Looks very good. Else Aziza's (again, at my short first glance) does full body combos. I did not notice her focus was as much on the arms, and less so on the hands, as the title would suggest. Beware this may be a faulty first impression by someone who has not properly viewed both dvds, nor worked with them.
I think Farhana's two latest (abs and arms) look really fabulous, beautiful stage/setting, beautiful sound - she looks stunning in what she wears, her movements are visible very well. and they are very long. Looking more into these 3 is on my "absolute to do" list. sorry I cannot be more specific :) (yet!)

Re: Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
I've worked with one Farhana's DVD to just "try her out"- i think it was the intermediate BD DVD. I loved it!! I loved the way the movements were broken down and drilled. She was pleasant to watch and the background was not distracting. I would certainly invest in one of her higher priced DVD at this juncture and have been considering the lovely layers. Sorry I dont have more for you- but please dont think that he DVD's arent popular.

I decided to buy it and give it a try. Your initial favorable impressions gave me the go-ahead. Thanks!

Re: Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
I watched the first 43min this noon.
It has a very nice introduction on what styles will vaguely use what kind of hands (not much detail, but really nice), a warm up and stretch for the hands and arms and shoulders. Looks very good.
Hand movements: she really goes into detail of beautiful hand or rather wrist circles and demonstrates palm undulations she does with them. I think this detail is why my wrist circles just do not look so nice! the camera zooms in greatly, so that is an amazing part of the video.
She explains finger placement in great detail, with how she made her (allegedly! who believes it!!! ;) ) bad hand positioning better by using tools like a pencil.
The hand section is really good, and just "en passant" she shows really nice styles of hand placement, like cute sassy Egyptian ones. There is much much detail here!
The arm part I have not been able to watch, but this is only about one third through the dvd!
I think you will not regret the purchase AT ALL. I can now for sure say I like this dvd A LOT more than Fahtiem and Katia's oriental arms 1, which I intend to revisit but somehow they did not draw me in a lot when I got them.
Maybe my issue with both was they seemed to have the title "hands" and "arms" , but essentially taught a choreography or combinations that were not spot on hands/arms. Farhana so far does not do anything but hands and arms. Love it! can't wait to closely watch the rest.
Btw her makeup is glamorous - I know she's a MAC girl and I'd love to know what that lovely rosewood/dark pink lip stick is :)

Re: Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
This just sounds better and better! Dina, you're a treasure trove of information!
here are so few engaging arm/hand dvds and boy do I need help with my hands and arms!!! I was, however, really leery of purchasing anything by her. I think I saw a few clips of an earlier production that did not come close to comparing to Cheeky Girls or WDNY--not even close. To bad there aren't more reviews of her new productions... I'll post my thoughts when I get the dvd.
Oh, and I agree about Fahtiem and Katia's dvds. They just didn't grab me.
Dina, why don't you email her and ask, lol? What have you got to lose?Last edited by dancerose; 01-28-2010 at 12:34 PM.

Re: Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
haha true she's been very friendly when I ordered them. I need to know that lipstick, you're right :)))
oh and setting/quality wise - I know her old ones were interesting right, with the traffic jam!! I found it kind of fun to imagine an L.A. boulevard with that noise but it clearly wasnt for everybody I guess!
This set and quality is NEAT. perfect sound, nothing distracted. It's a theatre stage actually with those lusciously heavy biiiiig wine red curtains. no worries whatsoever about sound or visual quality!

Oh, so spill--what color did she tell you the lipstick was? You should have asked her by now!
Btw, did you get Armed & Dangerous with a purple back? I bought mine of Ebay and now I'm concerned.

Re: Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
Gosh, I had a feeling she'd be a very advanced makeup girl :)
Yeah she is, she mixed several shades to get that look.
This is her reply, thanks Princess :)
"The lipstick I was using on the dvd is actually 2 MAC lipsticks and a
pencil all together.
I outlined my lips with the MAC lip pencil in "Cherry"
I filled in the top lip and outer corners of bottom lip with MAC "Ruby
Woo" ( deep matte red)
Then I went over all of it with a layer on both lips of MAC "Bombshell"
which is a shiny rosey pink, then blotted it well.
I like to use the darker/brighter shades and put the lighter shiny one in
the center, it makes the lips look kind of plump and "dimensional"
Sometimes for onstage performances I even put a little pearly white smudge
in the middle of the bottom lip to make it look fuller- but I didn't do that
on the DVD"
If you have to see how one could use different shades to create dimension on the lips this is an awesome video on fantastically gorgeous Kim Kardashian:

Re: Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
Oh--does your copy of Armed and Dangerous have a purple back? I bought my copy from a store, but a lot of people have been scammed off Ebay lately with bootlegs.
Can you look at yours please and tell me?

Re: Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
ok my armed and dangerous has a blackish/charcoal curtain like design on front and back cover! nothing purple I think (at least in artificial lighting - or I'd have eye issues :) ).
She wears a lovely green and light blue costume on the back.

Re: Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
No, you don't understand. I'm talking about the dvd itself. My dvd is not a pressed dvd with the normal silver bottom. The side of the dvd that the player reads is colored purple, which means it is a dvd-r, I believe.
Some dvd-r's do not play well in certain dvd players or degenerate over time, I've heard. When Michelle Joyce started putting out Cheeky Girls dvds, they were not pressed and popular demand made her reconsider.
So, does the actual dvd have a purple back? I'm wondering if I got a bootleg...

oooh soo sorry :( well the back of my dvd is purple when light falls on it directly, too! so sorry I did not think you are talking about the dvd itself rather than the box.. (I guess I never turn them so it never occurred to me they come in different colours!)

Re: Farhana's Armed & Dangerous Dvd?
Yes, I know what you are talking about. It was really frustrating when I first started out because I had to get them printed as DVD-Rs (purple back = burned) because it is cheaper. If you order regular DVDs (silver back = pressed) you generally have to order at least 1,000, which is a big gamble if you are self producing.
The early Cheeky Girls stuff is still DVD-R format, and every blue moon I get a complaint from someone who can't play it in their DVD player. But this is really rare, and I have found that people are more prone to complaining about the purple back than actually having trouble with it. Unless you know for sure that a DVD-R won't play in your DVD player, then I wouldn't worry about it. It literally causes trouble 0.1% of the time and that is usually on really old DVD players.
Bootlegs are almost always purple backs, since someone likely used their home computer to create it.

Your right. I haven't had any trouble playing the dvd. It's just I didn't want to pay for a bootleg.
