jillina shape up 'n' hip out

I haven't seen a review of this dvd here, so I thought I'd tell you how enthusiastic I am about it since dancing to it the first time today:

When it came out I admired the beautiful setting, the colours, and also the variety in movements and 100% bellydance movements used in contrast to some older bellydance workouts. Still, it somehow went on the shelf with many other dvds - that's the problem of collecting them dvds wildly I guess.

Well after an injury I got all excited about dancing again and went through a number of dvds I never tried before. This one today shook up my technique practice in a very favorable way:
the warmup is beautiful and different from others I have tried. I'd think it is yoga based, but I am not very knowledgeable in yoga. It is a good warmup, I will add Aziza's practice companion one tomorrow though. Somehow I feel best and safest with that one in addition to every other.
There are three workouts, to be played with voice over and music only consecutively. The movements in the first one are very easy. a beginner with some technique instruction could do them. they get you moving nicely - what I noticed for myself: it helps me move my arms more naturally along with the movements. maybe because she leaves the embellishments to other videos, this is really more functionality/fitness than 100% technique. and for me it helps getting away from the finest embellishments to more fundamental arm motions together with hip or foot motion. It helps surprisingly well.
She breaks down vertical figure 8s and camels in a different way - that shook up my way of doing them in a way, too. Interesting.
Also moving around with undulations I somehow manage to do more naturally with this video. Something great and stimulating about her instructions! or combinations.

I ran through the first workout with voice over and without. Then the second one. I was shocked to see one hour had passed like nothing! the second workout has some really cool "dancey" combinations. Faster.

I could not do the 3rd one for time reasons. It is an amazing video for moving around without thinking too much - and for my technique it seemed like a great refocus.

    very fun to do, too!
you will not break a sweat. The downside of exclusively bellydance combinations I guess - the heart rate does not go up like with more aerobics fused workouts.

    Highly recommended!

I LOVE this DVD. I never get tired of it. It has something for everybody, depending on how much or how little intensity you want. And it is a workout yet you get to practice technique at the same time without worrying about choreography.

Yep, it's definitely a keeper, and one of my favorites too.

I love this too BUt I don't do the warm-up. It is definately no good for someone like me with knee problems. I often do this using slow routine as warm up and have found that OK. I love the cool down, though as I can get stiff afterwards and many dvds don't have one of these

I was wondering (I saw you are in Europe too), where do you buy your dvd's? Shipping costs from US can be quite high...

I try to order from sellers that have very low or no international shipping - try Ocean State Media that is one of my favorites! they have free shipping for $50 and above most of the time.
Then WDNY I get directly from WDNY's homepage. they used to have free shipping, too, and now a flat rate of $5 I think for however many dvds you take (I believe).
Sometimes I buy from dancers directly, they normally post 1 or 2 dvds for 3 or 4$ in a normal envelope. hope that helps :)

also for ocean state media do not get discouraged if they do not have a dvd you want. they can often get them for you! try emailing them.
Also I noticed filmbaby.com has far better shipping than amazon, but I have not ordered from them yet!
I saw Michelle Joyce offers a massive sale with free shipping I believe (cheekygirlsproductions.com). That is of little use for me since I own all of hers already I believe :))

It has been talked about before when it first came out. But it's definitely worth talking about again because I think it's going to be one of those workout videos that will stand the test of time.

You know, I was so discouraged by her really complicated warmup, I never found it in myself to actually finish the dvd, I'll need to revisit it
