The seller should post a view of the back and at least one close up before I'd even think about it

Re: Hong Kong Belly dance costumes
I think this was posted some months ago here already - maybe a different seller, the name does not ring with me. anyways people said the things were really good for troupe costumes, to have similar looking items in different colours at such a low price.
Plus: they apparently look neat from some distance, very sparkly and pretty, and no one said they fell apart quickly, so the quality seems to be ok.
Minus: from close up you see it is cheap.
At least that was what some people said on the costume forum I believe on Chinese ebay costumes that looked exactly like this bra.

Re: Hong Kong Belly dance costumes
I have the belt- didn't buy it, I was given it by a well-meaning friend (I do ATS so...). It's not good... I'm on the slimmer side of average, UK size 12, 34in hips, and the belt struggles to reach round me which forces it to sit too high. Even on a slimmer dancer, it's poorly shaped around the back so it gapes at the base of the spine, and that circular motif on the front is white plastic, decorated with cheap plastic "jewels" which are colourful but not very sparkly. The dangly stringy things (my friend thought they were tassels when she bought it) have tacky gold lame-type fabric on one side and not the other so when they twist, because the stitching is uneven on either side, the plasticy white backing is exposed for the world. It fastens with a thin strip of cheap velcro (the sort that'll give you six months or so before the loops are shredded and you have to replace it) so it's very specific about where it has to fasten, forget adjustability either way.
My friend reckoned she paid about £15 sterling for it and I don't think it's even worth that- I wouldn't dare dance in it as the fastening is so poor that it would be rather precarious, plus the stringy bits are great as long as you're standing absolutely stock-still so they don't twist, and the white plastic ring is downright ugly, looks like it came off a curtain or something.
Dina- it isn't just up close that it looks cheap... it looks pretty on that photo but once it's in your hands it just feels like cheap, poorly sewn, badly cut plastic.
Sorry for the heap of negativity... but really, the wretched thing's horrid and I felt a bit bad for my friend getting excited thinking she'd found me a great bargain!

Re: Hong Kong Belly dance costumes
LOL thanks a lot for the honesty; i think you saved me a useless spent $40 or something like that!! I am not entirely sure this is the same seller as the one judged as relatively decent for the price (something like "Chinese ebay costumes" the thread was called) on here. the picture is identical, but ebay sellers frequently expropriate other sellers' pics right..
a dancer suggested CHinese costumes in one of her youtube videos, I'll have to look up the link.shesaid she'd found someone quite recommendable for people who have to show up in different costumes at performance venues, and cannot afford a range of high end ones.. I'll check what that ebay shop was called.

Re: Hong Kong Belly dance costumes
I have the bra. I bought it for my costuming workshop treasure trove. The sequins are basically flat disks so there is little shine, there is no solid strap beneath the lycra, so no real support, the lingerie hardware is visible in back. And yes, size is an issue. There is no way that you will get this bra over a 34B maybe C.
Now, if I had a very student group which was performing at a in house recitle, than I would not wholey discourage someone from getting these. Then main issue would be to reinforce the straps and do something to cover the hooks. And to make sure that the dancers know that this is NOT a professional costume.

Re: Hong Kong Belly dance costumes
Thanks for all the suggestions. I figured it was pretty bad for only $30 but thought I'd ask. Too bad cuz I do like the shape of the bra...
