Thread: 2 new dvds by Sandra spring 2010!

hi everybody,
I just read in a newsletter Michelle will be back to filming after she had her beautiful baby daughter Sienna in November, and one of the first projects gets my heart pumping:
Vol. 2 of belly by Sandra. I loved Vol. 1 SO MUCH, so I can't wait for that to be released.
Also they will be filming an advanced choreography to the song "Faddah" by Hossam Ramzy. Sandra danced to it beautifully (and with lovely hair-do, may I add) on BDFD 2.

Can't wait for these!

Wow thanks I checked out the site - I think it may be a mistake and the release date may be May 15th?

I just realized looking at Sandra's site the one I am more eagerly waiting for (Vol 2) is TWO HOURS TWENTY MIN long!!! ,r:; WOW! can't wait is an understatement!

I got Vol. 2 yesterday and I like what I saw. The drills are generous and not run-of-the-mill. Even better, Sandra puts all the drills together at the end for an extended workout. I know you can chapter through, but this is a very nice detail. I'll be working with it tomorrow. I really, really like the arm practice drill.

Sorry, Dina, I've had several major household repair issues. Monday...promise.

Dina, I know you like Shamira II. I don't know if you remember, but I said it was my favorite beginner because of the variations and that it got me up to dance? I still love that dvd, but this is so, so much better.

Sandra gives great form pointers. There are so many dvds that have you do 20 hip circles and 20 hip drops like a bunch of belly zombies. Of course there is a place for that, but this dvd makes you feel like you are actually dancing during the drills. Organic movement is the term, I believe. You are drilling a basic move, but she gives you some graceful arms, a lean, or a layer of movement to pretty it up. A complete package.

I was amazed at the shoulder shimmy section. A no brainer move for me (one of the few) and she spent more time drilling this simple move than I've seen on dvd. Boring, right? No, it was full of variety and fun. All of her drills were like that. I especially appreciated the abdominal muscle prep drills for the undulations. I know my undulations need help and I think the drills will really help me a lot.

Vol. 2 has risen to the top of my beginner list. The music is beautiful, the drills are creative, and there is a generous amount of practice time. A combination of moves without feeling does drill movement, but not necessarily dancing. As a beginner and non-dancer, I really didn't feel the music or beauty of dancing. I drilled. That's pretty much what most beginner dvds taught me. Vol. 2 has that "spark" that would have helped me "get it" and the difference a lot sooner.

I really, really hope Sandra comes out with more dvds. She is an excellent teacher and I'd definitely buy a dvd with an intermediate or advanced movement flow from her. Major hint here.

Hehe I know what you mean with rather dull drilling - I have been less "good" in practicing with my tons of dvds in the past year than I should have been according to my plans :)

I believe it's for that reason, for me it really needs to feel like dance. Shamira 2 and also Jillina's Shape up got me to practice a lot more in the past months for that!

Normally I would have Sandra's dvd lying on my shelf for until I feel I am "ready" (done with her other one). But guess what, I took an advanced workshop of Egyptian style with a lovely Maghrebine teacher recently (there was no beginner workshop, and I WAS creeped out in advance by it being advanced). Guess what, I could keep pace with the professionals and semi-professionals there! (Of course my moves need major polishing still..) So the drilling at home and Shamira's dvd really paid off :) Major motivation boost here. :-D

Boy, I can't wait for that dvd now!

I hope Michelle/Sandra read this and work on an intermediate/advanced movement flow. From the first dvd and what you say on the second one Sandra really is an ingenious teacher!!

As for details: Maybe one. Is it body part/movement focused or are their mixed combinations too where you move in a more complex way?

I am going to order a bunch of DVDs by the end of May (saved up two months because the € rate isn't good right now, and shipping to Europe is pricey) and I think, having read these reviews, Vol. 2 may just have pushed Michelle's Drills!³ off the list. I wish I had more money so I could have them all, but do you think I'd be better off with Sandra's Vol. 1 and 2 first? (Oh dear, having to decide between a producer and her partner!) I've only been dancing since September, but doing fairly well so far.

Oh, and a question for Sandra: if I order them from your site, is the free shipping (as mentioned on the page for Vol. 2) still possible? Or do I pay for the shipping of Vol. 1? Or both?

Ok, Dina, more thoughts:

Everyone has played with a box of crayons. It can be endless fun for some or eventual boredom. Then said kid gets taken to the museum and sees what the 64-pack can do. Everything changes. Possibility. A rare "spark" in a beginner dvd as most are more functional.

The crayons are somewhat kept in their family: arms, undulations, circles, etc. She uses a lot of shading: pretty arms, movement, level changes, body line, and variations of the particular movement in the section to add interest. Sandra does include combinations of movement; you will see an undulation or two added in the large hip circle section, ect. for example. But she doesn't mix them all up as much as I think you are asking. There is no choreographed dance. I think what Sandra does is appropriate for a beginner dvd. The absolutely beautiful music adds to the languidness. Beginners will learn to execute a movement at an easy temp and with grace. Did I mention grace? This dvd is dripping with grace. I felt like a horse. Regardless, you will feel like you are dancing during whatever Sandra has you doing.

Boy, I can't wait to see what she'd do with an intermediate or advanced putting-it-all-together dvd. More abs drills & arms I hope.
