I just got my pre-ordered BDSS 3-D Superstars Volume 1 from Amazon. It comes with 2 sets of cardboard 3-d glasses. My initial impression? Well, Avatar it's not - LOL. The glasses weren't the gray polarized ones they give out in theaters today. They were the old fashioned one with a red cellophane lens and a blue one. The 3-D effect was best in the one veil number. That was cool to see the spinning veil seem to come out of the TV for a few seconds. For most of it, though, the dancers and objects looked a little out of focus to me, even with the glasses on. It reminded me of when I was a little kid in (gulp) the 70s, and Creature of the Black Lagoon was shown on TV in 3-D. My parents had to pick up little cardboard glasses at 7-11 in order for us to watch it. Also, be warned - it did lock up a couple times and I had to FF a second to get it moving.
However, performance wise it was one of the better BDSS videos. There were quite a few new dancers I haven't seen before. There are 13 performances, and I'd estimate the mix to be about 2/3 cabaret and 1/3 tribal with one ballet/belly dance fusion number that was actually pretty cute. Overall, the dancing seemed a little softer than what I've seen previously from the BDSS without the spastic editing of the earliest videos. Best news - nobody forgot their skirt on this one.
There is an option to watch it normally with no 3-D overlay. I think most people will watch it once in 3-D for the novelty and then go back to the plain view in order to watch some pretty enjoyable dancing without the headache of everyone undulating in and out of focus.

Thanks for posting this! I've been wondering how this dvd would turn out.
And for the record, I had the 7-11 glasses too back in the day ,r:;

Re: Got BDSS 3-D!
No bad editing? sounds too good to be true
13 performances sounds good too.
Babelesque editing was horrid(as per usual) from what I've heard/seen.
eta: can you tell us who had actual solos?
not everyone right?Last edited by gayiii; 03-05-2010 at 08:54 PM.

Re: Got BDSS 3-D!
I don't know if I'd say NO bad editing. Sometimes I found myself wishing they would pull the camera back a little so I could see a wider view, but at least no crazy bad editing with closeups of cleavage or crotches or angle changes every 2 seconds.
I don't think it could be the same as Babelesque because these were solo performances in a studio, and I thought Babelesque was a stage show. I really thought there were some nice performances on this. I watched this video again tonight with a friend, and I've decided my favorite dancer on it is Nathalie.

Re: Got BDSS 3-D!
Oh, and they were all solo performances except for Petite Jamillah. She had two dancers join her for maybe the last minute, but it was mostly a solo.
The first one, Sonia I think, was with live drumming. The rest were all recorded music.
