I can't wait to read some reviews. I love T-H too, and I want this video, but I am so broke.
I can already recognize/dance to the rhythms that are taught, according the video desciption on IAMED's website, so I'm hesitant to buy this. What I really want are Tamra-henna style combinations because I love her dancing.

Just got my copy yesterday (still in the wrap -- won't have time to look at it in depth until the weekend darn it!..cr.: ). The name is "Arabic Rhythms & Combinations", so yep, combinations, like Dani says!
The backcover states: A look at 6 Egyptian rhythms (Maqsoom, Masmoudi Sagheer, Wahda, Ayub, Malfouf and Fellahi). Then this (quote following):
"Because it's not enough to recognize the rhythms, Tamara-henna discusses the kinds of music in which each rhythm is found and how you can use them in your performance."
and
"She then teaches several combinations that reflect the structure of each rhythm..."
Amir Sofi is the featured drummer.
Chomping at the bit to get to it (darn that day job!
)

I'm looking forward to your unbiased review. Clearly, those of us who are her students have less than objective views
(Well, you know I'm gonna say what I think once it gets here, even though I am a former student at this point since my lazy butt is parked at work and home & not in class.)

Re: New IAMED Release - Arabic Rhythms Tamra-henna
I couldn't find any other reviews posted, so I wanted to let everyone know how much I absolutely LOVE this DVD, which I just got for Christmas.
I'd consider myself a low intermediate level dancer (four years of experience, just starting to get some paid gigs), but I was familiar with only three of the six rhythms covered before purchasing the DVD. There is a chapter on each (maqsoum, beledi, wahda, ayub, malfoof, fellahi) which breaks each rhythm down and charts it as Amir Sofi plays the basic rhythm and then variations on the rhythm.
Following each rhythm breakdown are two combinations that work with it. I have made it through only the first half, but Tamra Henna is a wonderful, warm, enthusiastic instructor who breaks down, explains, and demonstrates each movement and combination very clearly, showing it from multiple angles.
The combinations are fresh and creative, and I found them to be a very appropriate level of challenge to make things interesting. While they're "do-able" the first time through, it's going to take me some serious practice to master them.
I'm sort of a video junkie, and this is one I'd very highly recommend. It's extremely informative, will work for many levels of dancers, and is quite fun to dance along with!

Re: New IAMED Release - Arabic Rhythms Tamra-henna
Thanks for the review LauraLevana. I too am a video junkie but on a budget. I always like to read a few reviews.
Has anyone else viewed Tamra Henna Arabic Rhythms?
Also, has anyone gotten any dvd's from Sadie? I am interested in Thrillin Drillin, Sultry slow Moves, and Drum solos.
Could anyone give me a review? pretty please?

Re: New IAMED Release - Arabic Rhythms Tamra-henna
I have the three Sadie videos. If you do a search, you can probably find a couple reviews from when they first came out.
As a summary, they all both pretty "meaty" and have a lot of material and pretty much keep you dancing the whole time. If you have no experience with Sadie's style, the drills one is a good one to start with. There are two technique sections and six sets of drills, each with three drills. The video describes them as three levels of difficulty, but they're really more like three different but related drills. I think all of them could be considered little combos that you could throw into your dancing for variety.
The taxim one is a good middle of the road DVD as far as difficulty. There's not a whole choreography, but there are several combos. The format is a technique section followed by a combo throughout. The technique sections are each almost like a drill section.
I think almost everyone agrees that the drum solo DVD is the hardest, but it has signature Sadie style moves and gives you a whole choreography. I can't remember the drum solo song, but it's on a few compilation CDs I have, so not hard to come by. If you get more than one, you might want to get Thrillin' Drillin' first to practice some of Sadie's typical combos and layering technique, and then the drum solo one to put it all together into a dance.

Re: New IAMED Release - Arabic Rhythms Tamra-henna
But back to Arabic Rhythms, since that's really the thread topic, if I already have Magnificent Moves with Zahra Zuhair and Traveling in Style by Ava Fleming, and already am familiar with the six rhythms demonstrated on the DVD, how much new material is there in the technique and combos?

Re: New IAMED Release - Arabic Rhythms Tamra-henna
If I remember correctly, there are only five rhythms in the dvds. Fellahin is not on the dvd but may be included in part two.

Yes, I was wanting to ask about this. It mentions the six rhythms (including Fellahi) on the back cover but on the DVD it only has five Maqsoum, Beledi, Wahda, Ayub and Malfoof. Is everyone's like this or is mine just a faulty copy???

Re: New IAMED Release - Arabic Rhythms Tamra-henna
Mine is the same. I imagine that the Fellahi rhythm will be covered on the next DVD because I think they filmed with the intent to make the material into two DVDs. T-H said she's not sure when the 2nd one is coming out as she doesn't have control over that aspect if the production.

So, if there are only five rhythms, are there only five combos?
