Thread: Habiba Quick Start Belly Dance

This DVD set is on sale on Habiba site. I have this DVD and it is great. Lessons broken down into untis. It is a full course for beginners on Egyptian style. I pratcice to it daily.

There are 2 DVDs in the set for a total of 4 hours. There are 8 sections starting with warm ups and ending with a full 7 minute chorography dance. This is a good learing set for those that might not have a teacher close by that want a lesson course. It is very clear and consise format with drills and homework.

Is there a trailer available for it? what does she teach differently from the ton of other beginner dvds on the market, movement or approach/explanation wise?
More information would be greatly appreaciated - I am not sure I need another beginner dvd :)))

I don't like the fact that there is no video trailer available. I avoid buying dvds now unless I can see a trailer first ! ,m::

Habiba produced this video herself, and while the technical production is very good (as you can see mentioned in the reviews), she isn't marketing it on a larger scale like WDNY or Cheeky Girls productions.

It's one dancer putting out a video of her beginner dance lessons herself. Please no angry faces! ..g.:

Sorry, I read the reviews on Habiba's website and it sounds great ! But I have to admit that I am really spoilt for video clips now like WDNY and Cheeky Girls

I must agree - dancers would REALLY make sales especially to people outside of their areas MUCH easier with trailers. I guess showing some glimpses into the dvd cannot be this hard to manage! I mean even I with very limited technical knowledge manage to extract pieces of audio from all kinds of files and split video files to small portions (the latter in rather time consuming manner for lack of knowing better methods, but hey it works!).

So really I could only advise that.. I too have gotten a bit weary of buying dvds without trailer. Got too much stuff in the past I could have done without :)

Yes Dina, I totally agree with you. Due to the large number of bellydance dvds now flooding the market all bellydancers will have to promote themselves more through video clips on U-tube, Facebook etc. Especially now due to the economic climate not many people, me included, will risk buying an instructional dvd without them viewing a clip first.

I am delighted to hear such good things from Akewa about my video, Quick Start Belly Dance. I must say, however, that with all the videos out there, you are absolutely right-you should have access to video clips before you buy. Right now my web site is getting its first overhaul in years and there will be many improvements including clips of my DVDs and also of the The Habiba Dance Ensemble. When they are up and running I will send out an announcement.

Until then I can only say that I conceived of the DVD as being extremely comprehensive in three ways: in the range and detail of movements covered, efficient and detailed indexing and the concept of building throughout the video from individual movements to typical combinations to practice assignments and finally to the choreography. When it was remastered for DVD we did a wonderfully detailed index that allows you to go to exactly the type of movement you want to study. In addition there are my lectures on the history of belly dance, costuming and rhythm.

It's a great dvd set, packed with useful content. Especially for beginners, but "advanced" beginners are sure to get much of value out of it as well. Recommended!

Hello Habiba glad to see you here. Any news about a second part to to the quick start like a more advance DVD? I wish when I lived in PA I lived close enough to you that I could take classes from you. Biut alas I was down on the border of Maryland.
