Horacio Cifuentes - "Confessions of a Male Belly Dancer" - anyone read it?

Well, does anyone have the book? I'm saving up to buy it as I think it will be very interesting - he's had quite a life and when I've attended his workshops in the past it is interesting to hear him discuss bits and pieces so I'm really looking forward to getting a copy...

It sounds interesting, but I can't find much information on the book. I also wonder if anyone who has read it could let us know what it was like!

I read the book, and I quite liked it. He writes in a very sincere way - things he adores, dislikes or misses are all brought out in the open. To me it seems he really tries to show himself in this book, not portray some image the readers would expect from him. And I guess that is the "not for the faint hearted part" - he shares bits of his life that most people would not.

The book covers all the story from his childhood and relatives and school and travels, his ballet times and only then about belly dance. So don't expect a full book aboud belly dance, it takes up less than a third of the book. He also has his specific writing style but I don't know how to describe it better.

I enjoyed reading it - made me laugh at times, made me think at times, and gave me a better insight to who he is. So, I recommend it.

Does he include Beatta in the book? He was a large part of the Bay Area BD community before he and Beatta moved to Germany, I would be very interested in reading the book!

Off topic, but was anyone at Rakk West the year they did that fabulous dance where she was wrapped as a statue and he pulled the "statue" onto the stage and unwrapped her? It was one of the most beautiful dances I've ever seen ............ chills up the spine just remembering it ......

I can't miss this opportunity to plug my events: I'm hosting Beata and Horacio in Milwaukee on October 22-23-24, 2010 and in San Francisco on October 29-30-31. Horacio will have a book signing on Sunday at both events, so if you have your copy by then be sure to bring it and get his autograph! If I get enough interest, I will start to carry and sell the book on the tour website, orientalfantasyUStour.webs.com.

The book is in English. And yes, he writes about Beata - how they first met, how they got together, how they live and work together.

Sounds like a necessary purchase to me! I've been to their workshops and shows - such beauty! At a workshop in Canada I had the pleasure of speaking about costuming to this amazingly gorgeous man as he sat sewing swarovski crystals to a costume. Very warm and charming man.

Safran, you hit the nail the head with your summary of the book. I received mine last week and read it very quickly. Enjoyed the book. Would have been nice to have more bellydance stories etc but I can understand why that wasn't the total focus of this book. It was a surprising book to me and I'd recommend it.

I agree. Very good summary. Very good book. It's written in good English, but same time the language is simple enough for those who has English as second or third language.

I'd like to have read a little bit more of things from their travels during OF, and other belly dance stuff. But maybe that's part II.
