Thanks, Dina...the trailer will be posted soon. This DVD...omg, it is so fantastic. These two young women "Bettina May" and "go-go Amy" are the global vortex of information about pinup culture. Chatting with them is an absolute revelation.

For example, they know exactly which shades of blush were available in 1946 but not in 1947 -- so to be authentic in emulating this or that movie star you had better be sure to use blush A, and not blush B. THAT LEVEL OF AWARENESS, they have!!

They are both excellent instructors and just the sweetest people on Earth. I hope everyone has a chance to meet them when they bring their make-up training activities to your town. They travel very widely, and constantly, teaching this wisdom.

Bettina May is Canadian, by the way, so I am expecting big support from Canadian purchasers for this DVD - !

go-go Amy is from New Jersey - so everyone in the US and the UK should buy for that reason alone. Jersey...NEW Jersey...you get the idea.

But you're right - a good dvd is a good dvd, and since I love old Hollywood, no matter what nation those ladies were and the women impersonating them are from I'll be sure to get it along with the Rachel Brice one. How nice they release at the same day ,r:;

Rachel is very much into 'retro' stuff so maybe this is not a surprise....there's something about the Rachel Brice aesthetic that is resonant with 'vintage' clothes and such. You see the art-nouveau-ish design on the cover of Rachel's DVD: That's retro, and she requested that. Don't they look like the real thing? That's because they ARE! Bettina May and go-go Amy totally LIVE like they were in the 1940s. The amazing depth of their knowledge of this era really comes through on the DVD...

In addition to bellydance I do roller derby. Our league is planning on creating a pin-up calendar, so this will be perfect. I already ordered the Rachel Brice, but this is a must have too.

Ya I guess some people find the shouting letters more fun than others, and some find them more annoying than others ..l;,
But what do you mean with paying advertising - almost every time I open a bhuz thread at some point there's dvd ads for WDNY.. (the one with rapidly changing images of past dvds)

(I know because I regularly hit it to see if they are up to anything new - too lazy to type in the adress sometimes ;) )

I bought this...can't wait for it to arrive :)

So glad you guys all started this tangent so I wouldn't have to .w.:

Cute concept for a video, don't get me wrong. I'll probably order it for my boyfriend who's obsessed with pinup art and photography.

But I'd imagine living like you're in the 1940's is kind of a drag if, for instance, you believe in gay marriage, racial equality and a woman's right to choose. Or if you enjoy the modern-day convenience of leaving the house without 12 lbs. of constrictive shapewear, an elaborate hairdo and a face full of makeup.

I think Dita van Teese said something about this ambiguity in a (very intelligent and inspiring) interview once.. something across the lines of she's aware glamorizing a certain period particularly the 40s/50s should be taken with a grain of salt, and while she loves to dress like a woman from the 40s/50s she'd sure as hell not want to live then.

I think for most people who do not renounce progress out of conviction and go live in colonies of like minded the same holds true.
the look is cool as hell though, no denying that.

AND: If you want to be a woman of the 40s being Marlene Dietrich or Rita Hayworth is no shame compared to some of our contemporary starlets IMHO!
