Thread: I just previewed Ranya Renee's New Improv/Taqsim DVD...

I hosted Ranya Renee here in NH this weekend and viewed her new Improv/Taqsim DVD. I loved her baladi dvd so much she let me sneak a peak at the next one...OMG it is just as amazing with technical items such as various maqams for taqsim as well as examples on how to apply them. It has the same voiceover feature as the other ones too.

Totally not trying to plug per se, but to share how excited I am to have more musicality candy to chew on...

And make sure you have straws on hand .w.:

Straws? Do we hold them between our legs? Oh wait--I just took a workshop with her in March--is that the "sucking up water" imagery?

No, don't tell me, let it be a surprise! I'm so looking forward to her forthcoming dvds--I am such a fan I will probably buy them all.

I got to preview the new video this weekend with Amity as well. WOW! I am so impressed with the quality and amount of information that Ranya shares on this DVD! I can't wait to see this when it is finished!

I am *so* looking forward to this one! I have worn the baladi DVDs out - I love them so much.

Ranya is fantastic. So much knowledge, plus she is super nice and very funny. I can't wait to see this dvd.

Hi folks! Yes, Amity was such a great host in NH that she and some of the other dancers voluntarily sat in front of the rough edit of my next video with pens taking notes, while waiting for their turn at private lesson slots. :-)

Now that I'm back from a big round of travels, I'll be recording the voiceover tracks over the next few weeks, and the graphic design will be happening, and trailers will be posted.... it's coming soon, folks! I'll keep everyone updated, will be sending an email update later this week also, with photos from the dvd shoot, so if you are on my e-mail list for dvd updates, you'll receive that.

There are actually going to be two different musicality dvds--we may be releasing them together, or one may be released first and then the other. Stay tuned!

PS--users of my Baladi and Modern Oriental videos: I'd appreciate your feedback on HOW you use my voiceover tracks from those DVDs. Like, do you listen and watch, watch a little, turn away from the screen and listen to the voiceovers, use the voiceovers for a few listens and then do the dvd without the voiceover track? And which voiceover comments/pointers do you find the most useful? This is helpful to me as I want to create DVDs that people can really use, that are practical for a variety of dance learning styles. Thanks!

I like to have detailed voiceover.. especially when being not that advanced you watch yourself in the mirror, and cannot follow the screen in detail all the time. Also I like to record the audio of things I am working on and rather listen to them/practice with my ipod to shake things up a bit and not be too dependent on the visual, which "stiffens me up" sometimes. hope this helps

I don't think I knew about the voiceover feature. I'll have to look at my DVDs tonight.

I'm kicking myself for not buying your two performance DVD's at the NH workshop.....they look AMAZING!!!! I think this will be my next DVD buy when I have a little more $$$. Thank you so much for an amazing workshop!
