As for me it is nice! I saw Turkish belly dancers dancing on high hills, it makes strong legs muscles ! But I wish more advanced DVDs from Neon!

I have to admit, I really do like Neon et al's usual pants choice- these are the same ones from "Hard Candy" I think? But I'm just a sucker for Sharifwear...

It's her style.. this very modern/"clubby" outfit, the dance style and combinations are modern and her own too, on all of the series from her older beginner 2 dvd set to Luscious et al.
Very "New York" I guess, as opposed to "Cairo".

I do like it for its own worth. Oh and quite "goddessy" from time to time :)

Re: Neon's new "Bellydance: First Steps for Total Beginners" pre-orders now shipping!

The shiny new "FIRST STEPS" DVDs have been received at our warehouse! We shipped them to all pre-order customers today Friday July 23rd! ..g.:..g.:

Kind of an unusual situation where we have the DVD before the trailer, ((**BLUSH!**)! Since finishing FIRST STEPS and sending it off for manufacturing we have just been really really busy. Even now Neon and I are traveling...but we will be back in New York and expect to have the trailer done within a week...I'll post it here as soon as we have it. --Scott

Re: PREVIEW VIDEO of Neon's new "Bellydance: First Steps for Total Beginners"

Could anyone tell me how this First Steps compares with Neon's
Instant Belly Dancer 2 DVD set?

I love Neon's warm and positive manner and the way she breaks down the moves, but my budget is tight so I don't want to spend the money if there is a lot of overlap.

    Thanks!

I think that the difference is that in her "first steps" are a dance flows so you can dance every day and practice the moves. her instant bd set is great too but you'll get bored to do it every day I think...cause it is great for a first two times when you listen to her explanations but when you already know that move you'll wanna practice it and dance. so my advice-go for "first steps", you'll find explanations and break-downs and dance flows!

    Thank you Esmahann *S*

I forgot to mention that I already have the "Instant Belly Dancer" dvds. :Aembarassed:

I agree that the flows would be a great practice tool, but not sure if I can justify buying "First Steps" for only that reason (though maybe I can find a way to rationalize it )

Are the moves she teaches in "First Steps" also covered in Instant Belly Dancer?

Does she break them down in the same ways?

Re: PREVIEW VIDEO of Neon's new "Bellydance: First Steps for Total Beginners"

yeah, I think she breaks-down the same moves even in Love Potion and Luscious ;-) and the manner of break-down is the same and very clear ;-) I don't think there is a big difference... So maybe if you already got Instant BD --- maybe you would like to go for more...
But I totally understand your hesitation, as for me, I buy ALL of the DVDs, I am a DVD addict ;-)

Thank you, that was very helpful!

Yes I can relate! I'm forcing myself to use self-control .p:: and just get one video this time ... the Bellydance Rhythms Workout.

    Thanks again *S*

once again defending my post.....the "costume" on anything usually denotes the style being taught..hense we are not drawn in by pants and shoes.

Cory, I'm not sure why you're responding to this 3 months after the last post, just to criticize the costuming and make some vague inference as to the style taught on a DVD you probably haven't watched 5 minutes of. I don't think you're Neon's target market, anyway...as you have years of experience in the dance, and are an acknowledged expert dancer and teacher. No one's expecting you to invest $15 in someone else's "Total Beginners" video.

I'm curious - do you buy many bellydance DVDs? If so, what do you look for when deciding what to buy?

Just browsing the forum and wanted to add that this dvd is fantastic- as are all of Neon's and indeed WDNY's. For a beginner it is very valuable in that it provides a nice introduction to doing combos that the menu format allows you to redo over and over easily. It's great in that it gives the beginner a 'boost' as it is a gentle way to introduce you to actually dancing, although tbh I think it is valuable to any dancer reviewing movement vocab and technique, not just beginners.

Re: PREVIEW VIDEO of Neon's new "Bellydance: First Steps for Total Beginners"

de sage, i was responding to 2 that asked why not pants,...and what would attract me to a dvd.....so, i responded. it is very very hard to find dvd's that are not over staged, or are freestyle dancers..or look like a fashion show for one costume company or another.....i was lucky to find a dvd of an old tape with my teacher and her daughter when she was 14...john b and raja play....many old school dancers ...i enjoy it . i really do not have much time. i teach and coach full time.
